Isles

Created by: Db1899
Team: 2023-24 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 20, 2023
Published: Feb. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team doesn’t have a path to making the playoffs for the next few seasons, they should just try to change the culture and focus on developing younger, more skilled players. It would be smart to get rid of some of the country club members like cizikas, Bailey etc.

Islanders by no means will take on Cal Petersen's contract. Maybe if they reduce it 50% I can see the trade happening

Isles aren’t making the playoffs regardless the next 2-3 seasons so the money shouldn’t matter if they get the 1st rd pick

That Kings trade might be tempting. I think LA will likely give Cal another shot at net though before they move him.

You should want Nashville to decline, I just don’t think Poille thinks that highly of tomasino and would take this

You’re mad because you’re wrong lol. More than half the teams in the NHL have dealt with more/worse injuries than the isles. It’s a part of the game, not an excuse. They are getting generational goaltending and still won’t make the playiffs

I think the Isles are going on the same path as the 2021-2022 Canucks. Elite goaltending temporarily plugging the holes, and hiding the flaws of the team. Team still ended up just outside the playoffs. Then in the next season when goaltending slowed down, the flaws in the roster became abundantly clear. Wouldn't be surprised if Sorokin's elite play eventually gave out and the Isles became a bottom 10 team next year like the Canucks

Sorokin is going to regress and I think they’ll finish in the 10-14 range

I think they could go even lower. Nobody was expecting the Canucks to be bottom 5 this year but here they are. Even with the high goal scoring they can't put it together. The Isles don't even score a lot

If Sorokin gets injured they can fall as low as 7 or 8, if he’s healthy he’ll prevent the isles from bottoming out. Vancouver has gotten some of the worst Goaltendung in the league

What if Sorokin gets hurt? Wasn't expecting Demko to be out for basically the whole season. If they trade Varlamov then I don't see how they'd get much better goaltending either

That’s a big what if lol - if he’s out for most of the season then yeah the isles are screwed. It’s rare for an elite G to be out an entire season. They usually don’t have serious injuries early in their career

I mean that was one of his biggest weakness when he was drafted. It is a miracle how he can skate like he does now.

He might be the worst skater on the isles and the isles have a bunch of slow skaters
