I like the additions but they will likely not have the capital to pull this off. Schenn starts at a 3rd and Lafferty probably at a 2nd. If they can trade Holl for a 2nd+ to a contender, then maybe there is a chance and/or the ask on Schenn drops since it should only be a 4th.

Not a fan of subtracting Kerfoot, not for Lafferty at least. Better to have the option to scratch whoever ends up out of the line up in the playoffs. Of course, there's going to be a challenge with staying under the 23-man roster limit and not losing anyone on waivers, perhaps Sandin ends up on IR though and if Schenn is had for cheap, then they can risk waiving Benn.

Schenn is going for a 3rd by himself, never mind trying to cap dump Kerfoot

Not enough quality assets in that trade to get McCabe half retained and Lafferty. Maybe replace SDA with Minten or Moldenhaer and it's closer.

I can't see Kyle trading both Holl and Kerfoot unless there is a significant upgrade coming back.

I like the idea of Lafferty and McCabe (especially at $2m) but you're essentially replacing a 3rd line forward and a 2nd pairing Dman who have been playing well and logging important ice time on a top 5 roster...giving up additional assets...and replacing them with a 3rd line forward and a 2nd pairing Dman. Just doesn't make sense.

The way I look at it is taking from a position of strength in the forwards to shore up the D. I don't trust Holl to play a single minute in the playoffs in spite of being relatively serviceable in the regular season. I think McCabe is a vast upgrade on Holl in the 2nd pair and Schenn would make a great 6/7 D man for the playoff run. Lafferty is cheaper and I think gives you most of what you get with Kerfoot. That's where my head was at, at least.

I don't think the Hawks are likely to get either while also getting a 1st & 3rd.

That's fine. Hawks will move their guys elsewhere or hang on to both.

I think hanging onto McCabe would be a massive error in judgement for them considering how badly they need to assets for a rebuild. I think he has value for sure but I think expectations need to be tempered on the exact return to expect.

What do you realistically expect for a player like McCabe? Out of genuine curiosity, both with salary retained or at full value.

Without retention, either a 1st or a 2nd plus a higher end F prospect (like a Mirten or Moldenhaer level). With half retained, a 1st plus that same level F prospect minimum. Keep in mind retention is for 2 full seasons after this. McCabe is easily the Hawks best D man this year, and it's not close. Jones creates way more offense, which is why he got the all star nod, but McCabe is a true 2 way d man.

Haha I appreciate you being graceful about it at least.

I don't think it's a terrible return but considering what Jeannot got I'm a little shocked if I'm honest.
