You're a bit off on value. You're asking the Leafs to take on a lot of the Hawk's financial burdens (almost $10 million if you include the retained salary). Hjalmarsson is a valuable player though, so maybe I'd be okay with everything else if no salary was retained and no picks were involved.

Ville Pokka or someone else. Not much to pick from for Vegas after this trade.

Assuming JVR (@50%) for Hjalmarsson is close to fair in value why are the Leafs giving up all of those assets for a overpaid depth center?

If anything I would want a conditional pick back in a straight up deal. -2018 1st if Chicago makes the conference finals with JVR playing 50% of games, if not and JVR re-signs or is traded then Leafs get 2019 2nd.

With 50% retained on JVR I don't necessarily disagree with a conditional pick but I think it would have to be a 2nd or 3rd instead of a 1st or 2nd. Hammer would help the Leafs soooo much.
