Anaheim TDL

Description
I did a thread on Arizona's deadline, so I figured I'd work my way through the teams as far as I can get. These are just from each team's perspectives, so there may be a trade here that is not repeated in other ones (for example, if I move Klingberg to say Ottawa here, when I do Ottawa's I may not get Klingberg or the exact same package).

One thing I did was keep Shattenkirk. I've seen that there's been some talk of extending him, and of their pending UFA defensemen, keeping him for 1-2 more years wouldn't be the worst thing with a weak UFA market in 2024. However, he absolutely could be moved. I just chose not to between that and the NTC.

Pieces I did not move but could be possibly moved: Shattenkirk, Stolarz, Henrique, Comtois, Beaulieu. I explained Shattenkirk above, but I think Henrique is an offseason/2024 TDL move if at all. Stolarz maybe could be moved, but I think its tough to move goalies to playoff teams. I could maybe see someone like PIT or NJD if they have an injury come up. Comtois feels like an offseason deal if he's still around, and Beaulieu is likely just no interest but he's been traded for a 7th before so who knows.
Trades
1.
ANA
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (EDM)
  3. 2024 4th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Full trade:

ANA receives: Puljujarvi, 2023 3rd (EDM)
EDM receives: Klingberg (retained twice to $1,250,000)
ARI or other third team receives: Klingberg (retained again for $1,250,000), 2024 4th (EDM)
EDM
  1. Klingberg, John ($3,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
I know he has been bad. I know Holland wants to get "value" for JP. But, according to Friedman, the Oilers are looking at puck moving defensemen. Also, in this deal you are now able to use about 2.8 million dollars for further additions, such as forward depth. I honestly don't know if this is the RIGHT move for EDM but I think its a move they COULD do.
2.
ANA
ARI
  1. 2024 4th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Arizona or other third team receives 2024 4th for the double retention on Klingberg
3.
ANA
  1. 2023 5th round pick (NYR)
WPG
  1. Grant, Derek
Additional Details:
I can see any contending team picking up Grant for a low round pick. I simply chose Winnipeg because it was the first I thought of.
4.
ANA
  1. Smith, Craig
  2. Strålman, Anton
  3. 2023 4th round pick (BOS)
  4. 2024 5th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
I think Anaheim could be the one taking this on to make room for Boston's Gavrikov deal. Threw in Stralman as more cap space/roster room and a plug for ANA after other trades.
BOS
5.
ANA
  1. 2024 4th round pick (COL)
COL
  1. Kulikov, Dmitry
Additional Details:
I think the Avs will be in on another upgrade at the TDL (someone like Mayfield comes to mind if NYI are falling), but I think Kulikov could be a nice supplement for their bottom/middle 6. I imagine the pairs when healthy could look like: Makar-Toews, Girard-Manson, Byram-Kulikov (or another acquisition rotating) and then Englund/MacDermid on the bench. I didn't retain because they can afford it, but retention could be possible if they are making other moves.

It's the worst collection of right wings in the NHL (with Terry on IR) and a d-corp that would struggle against AHL opponents. Oof, tanking sucks to watch.

Just a small point: Klingberg double retained is $1,750,000 (half of $3,500,000).

I'm not really sure what your question is here. The Ducks get: JP, 2023 3rd, 2023 4th, 2023 5th, 2024 4th, 2024 5th. Smith and Stralman are just cap dumps to get the extra picks. I could see a scenario where Boston gives them something else instead. But if your assertion is that they should be getting MORE back for these pieces...I respectfully disagree. Klingberg has not been that good this year. Getting a 3rd for him in a good draft, plus a player who could turn it around out of Edmonton, is not that bad all things considered. You took a guy you signed for free, and turned it into two assets. Grant is a bottom six guy, if you get higher than a 4th or 5th for him I will give you my credit card information. Kulikov same deal, mayyyyybe a team gives up a third for him, but he's a bottom 6 defensive defenseman who is lefthanded. A 4th seems like a good return for a guy you will not be resigning.

It is rough yeah. I imagine it will be a busy offseason for them once some of this money comes off.
