Canes TDL

Created by: bluspy88
Team: 2022-23 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 23, 2023
Published: Feb. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I am going to approach the Canes deadline with the comments from Dundon about being "aggressive." However, I am not going to try to completely empty their prospect and pick banks if I can.

I think the one thing that could be very different is if they go for Meier. However, I think moving Meier would require giving up Jarvis at least. I decided not to do that, but I would like to see what Hurricanes fans think.

As I was doing this, it was announced that Henrique is Week-to-Week. I still think he's a worthwhile pickup if they know he will recover in time to contribute. Maybe the cost comes down.
Trades
1.
CAR
  1. Henrique, Adam
Additional Details:
Henrique could be a good pickup who won't be just a rental for the Hurricanes, with him being signed for next season. He provides value at both ends of the ice and could play both C and LW. I think the Canes could afford to give up a 2nd for him as they're able to absorb all his cap hit. I also included Coghlan as the Ducks could use D depth after some presumed trades and many players being UFA, and the Canes could use an upgrade which we will explore.
ANA
  1. Coghlan, Dylan
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
There may be more to this deal, but lets just go with this as a foundation.
2.
CAR
  1. Braun, Justin
Additional Details:
Braun is a very solid depth defenseman. He will be reliable in his own end, and brings lots of playoff experience for a very cheap acquisition cost.
PHI
  1. 2023 7th round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Upgrades to a 6th if he plays 25% of Carolina playoff games.
3.
CAR
  1. Smith, Craig
  2. 2023 4th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
I have no idea what the plan is here, but there's a lot of smoke of them picking him up. Maybe they see him as a good depth option, maybe they are going to flip him again (even though he has very little value now?). I'm going to include this deal here since it sounds like it is a realistic possibility.

I think the Flyers want at least a 5th for Braun, just because of how good of a veterans presents he will be in the playoffs.

Well Carolina doesn't need the retention unless they're planning on adding even more, so I don't really see the benefit in giving up more for unneeded retention. I also would be shocked if they did a 1st for just Henrique, even if he has one more year. I think Henrique is a very good player, I don't know if he is worth a 2023 1st like say Meier is. What if they did the 2nd, Coghlan, and a prospect?

I'm a Flyers fan and agree, I just wanted to be a bit conservative. Think he COULD get a 5th but since he's been the 7th guy all year it could drive it down.

True but I just think with his experience they should do a 6th and then a possible 5th or 4th if the Canes make it to the Conference Final or the Cup Final.

I mean, just to be clear: You are saying a 2023 1st for Henrique at 50% would get it done? I guess they COULD do that I guess. What about: Henrique (50%) and Kulikov for the 2023 1st, Coghlan, and like a 4th for Kulikov? Or instead of the 4th a lower end prospect.

That'd probably be reasonably decent. Probably 1st+Coghlan+3rd, but the framework is fine, IMO.

23 1st 23 or 24 3rd and Coghlan for Rico 50% and Kulikov id be happy with

1st and Coghlan for Rico and 23 or 24 3rd for Kulikov

wonder if there's a different forward prospect instead of Coghlan but that would be the framework I'd like
