Detroit declines. Minten and a 1st or kick rocks.

Don’t see the Leafs trading a 1st for another rental (never mind adding a prospect).

I could see potential Holl move (we have 9 dmen currently) but oil have no cap room, none. Would have to be money in money out which makes it tough

You'll be happy to have those 9 defenceman when 2 guys get hurt in the playoffs. I'd much rather have the depth than force Mete into the lineup

What happens if forward gets injured? Or a goalie? 9 nhl caliber dmen is too many

It is not, the Leafs had their top 3 defenceman hurt for a stretch this season. If you consider Liljegren top 4 as well then we had a stretch without our entire top 4. What happens if that happens in the playoffs. We have lots of depth forwards who are good enough for the 4th line. We don't have many guys who can play 20 minutes a night if Brodie, McCabe and Rielly get hurt in the playoffs.

Your argument makes no sense - what if Matthews, ROR and JT get hurt? What if samsonov and Murray get hurt?
At some point, you have to take risks - 9 nhl caliber dmen is too many. 99% confident one of them will get moved or waived; aside from the too many argument they need to make room for knies

If Matthews, ROR and JT get hurt, you are in major trouble. I would say those losses would be insurmountable. Goaltending is less important. We don't have a Vasilevsky, so we hope one of our better than average goalies can weather the storm.

Agreed but if you lose Reilly & Brodie (not even counting McCabe - have to see how impactful he’ll be) - we’re also done. Long way to get back to - 9 nhl caliber dmen are too many given none are waiver exempt and Leafs are cap strapped. Someone has to go to make way for Knies

Or they don't because he isn't likely to play this season

I see the playoffs as a long shot (a lot to ask for young guy, coming from college) but imo - he plays some games at end of this season. He’ll be a key guy (top 9) next year
RipNasty liked this.
