Gambrell didn't work out with the Sharks, so you can keep him. As for the rest of the package, that's more quantity than quality but we need the draft capital for our rebuild. While I'm not sure if I would accept or not given C-level prospects, I got a feeling Mike would take that for the draft picks.

Why would the Rangers trade a 6th round pick for a 7th round pick?

Brannstrom is not a guy you trade. He's a great 3LD, and he's gonna be really inexpensive to extend.

Conditions of a 7th in the Motte/Gauthier trade: “ If NYR advance to the second round of the 2023 playoffs, the pick will upgrade to the lower of NYR's 2023 6th round picks (NYR or WPG).”

I guess the poster is assuming the Rangers will advance.

The Motte trade condition was 7th becomes a 6th if the Rangers win in round 1.

I actually think Brannstrom is a 4 D which evidently he will never be in Ottawa because he won't beat out Sandy Chabot or Chychrun. I am looking to move for some size prior to the likes of Hamara, Kleven or Donovan all coming in to compete for that same role. Need a 2 year filler.

Way I look at it, you get draft capital to hit on one of those picks, and move two guys that are walking in FA anyways.

If you think he's a 4 that's even more reason not to trade him. He's really good, Ottawa doesn't need him to be a top 4 guy, and they won't need to pay him like one.
