I think Hawks were trying to extend Domi, no? I saw something the other day about possible 4-year deal.

All speculation at this point. I think they'll wait till summer to figure out if they want him long term. In which case they will just deal him if there are offers and revisit in the summer.

I don't see a reason why they can't trade him to a contender now and re-sign him back in the off-season. Kane might be another candidate for that, especially if the Hawks get Bedard. (I don't personally want to see Kane back again but you never know.)

That rarely happens though…a player gets traded at deadline as a rental then returns to the original club.

The only time I remember that happening in my hockey watching life with a big star was Keith Tkachuk. Overall pretty big win for the Blues, and the death knell for the Atlanta Thrashers.

Justin Braun

It’s happened a few times with small time players like Justin Braun. The Sabres brought back Cody McCormick after trading him to Minnesota. But the only time a star player was traded at the deadline, and returned to the team that traded him in the off-season that I can recall is Keith Tkachuk.
