1. Marleau will be signing with a contender
2. No need for Smith who is LHD
3. TOR can get more for Riemsdyk
4. Keep Lupul for the last year and don't give up any picks

1. Leafs are a contender if they can upgrade on defense.
2. Leafs need to upgrade their 3rd pair which was their biggest weakness.
3. 15th overall and a young RHD is a fair deal for JVR.
4. Trading Lupul means bonuses don't carry over into the 18-19 season.

That's a terrible deal with NYI. Why would we take on more LTIR to only acquire a so-so defensive prospect and a mid-1st rounder in a poor draft year? Also, Mike Babcock does not like Brendan Smith so that is not happening.

The Isles would be better off keeping their players and pick and signing Marleau as a UFA. (if Marleau wanted to sign as an Islander). You thought it was important to give a 2nd rounder to get rid of Lupul's LTIR but then you take on another with Grabo. Even worse would be if Grabo is medically fit.

Love what you've done with the backup goalie position
