Description
IMO this is the time to lock up your young talent at the best value possible, and that this is their best option moving forward. In order to do this, NYR has to accept that they have to work with the core they have without the ability to tinker until the deadline. They only have to wait a year, as the cap will be jumping 8-9m the following season. This isn't all bad. There would be opportunities for young guys coming up like Othmann, Cuylle and Sykora to get minutes.

The Drury deal just makes a ton of sense to me.

Also, get a new coach.

I'd imagine the Canes ask for Cuylle or Sykora instead. Carolina's D prospect pool is incredibly deep as it is. I like Jones, but they need forwards. With Morrow likely to sign his ELC when UMass' season end, Seeley, Honka, Heimosalmi all in the system, and Alexander Nikishin being the best defenseman in the KHL aged just 21, more D guys doesn't make sense.

I see. Svech, Aho, Jarvis, Necas, Turbo, Puljujärvi, Martinook, KK. More on top of that? Maybe you need an elite player, but that seems like a different move altogether.

I imagined Jones could be a Gostisbehere light right away and has upside, but at a fraction of the cost.
But if they want B6 forwards, I imagine they probably would just want to keep Drury.

Ghost was brought in to be a PPQB, which Morrow is going to do anyway. They need forward prospects. Outside of Jackson Blake, that shelf is a little bare. They don't need to be NHL ready next season either. There's enough of the roster signed to not have to worry about promotion from Chicago. They need people that can help the summer after this one when Aho, Teravainen, Jarvis, Necas, Pesce, Slavin are all out of contract.

1- you probably can do small bridge deals, ones that no one will agree with.. like a 1-2 year deal. There’s been heavy chatter about adding new teams so if there’s an expansion draft then you can likely watch kreider and Trouba get snatched free of charge and then have that extra loot to pay the kids of the future. Something that no one on here would ever consider..

2- guess I was right about the Kravs value 🤷🏻‍♂️

2- Yeah, definitely. Although, I believe the organization valued him more than GG had and only due to sudden Kane deal did they absolutely have to move him, and settled on the price that they did.

1- What would be a better use of the 3-4m you save in cap space next year in going with bridges vs lower cost long term deals? Keeping Goodrow? Paying another Bottom 6er? The kids need to play in the top 6. The following year the cap will go up 8-9m, and they'll have Kakko, Schneider and Lindgren to sign and it's all gone.

If another team is to be added (there is buzz around the topic, but the league was pretty firm that the chatter is not substantiated and there are no plans) it's going to take 4-5 years. Trouba, Kreider and Panarin will be gone.

The savings could be for bottom 6 guy(s) and cap space for TDL acquisitions. While I tend to agree with the 4 years out concept, I think they could be trying to keep lips sealed as OTT and ARZ are both potentially selling and the NHL wouldn’t want to devalue them by making more franchises available(supply/demand thing). I bet once OTT is sold and ARZ has a plan in stone it will move fast. If there’s this much smoke around the topic then it’s much more realistic then they lead on.
