Description

Washington trade is a bit far fetched. I would need to look at Washingtons cap situation. But they get they better player and a pick but they take on a lot of cap.

Mayfield would be a perfect add for Vancouver in my mind.

Also is Tanner Pearson expected to be back next year? Or is he out for good now?

No way in hell is Washington retaining 50% on Mantha and taking on Boesers full caphit for one year longer.

Mayfield is playing 20:53 on the Islanders this year and they are a very good defensive team. Which is 2nd on their defense, only behind Pelech. He is getting more minutes than Pulock and Dobson. Although all 3 are close in terms of their minutes.

He is 100% a top 4 D man. Not a true top pair guy but a very good defensive dman who would complement OEL and Hughes very well. He would be what Brodie is on the Leafs.

As for Washington trade, I will definitely need to rework it. I agree with you.

If Caps don't think a new coach could get Mantha going I could see them considering this.

I disagree. Mantha is HUGE and has a lot of upside but is injury prone. Plus this is almost 4m in cap savings, which is used to bolster their defense.

Goal scoring isn't vancouver's issue. It's keeping it out of their net.

Mayfield isn't there to do anything but play defense and support Hughes when he goes on the rush, freeing him up.

to the OP,

Caps aren't retaining that much, but I think the line combinations would make more sense

Kuz - Petey - Beauvillier
Mantha - Miller - Garland
Mikheyev - Domi - Podkolzin

Balance them out, and keep them on their proper wings

Caps are adding around 3.5m in cap here which I can't see them being able to do even though the value is fine. Also giving Mayfield and Domi 9.5m for 5 years would be such a Vancouver move

That Caps trade is bad for Van, throwing away yet another 2nd round pick for one year of a retained Mantha who's less productive then Boeser, just poor asset management.

Just keep Boeser and find a cheaper 3C.
