Basically no changes - this is all they can do without moving someone out

Description
I see people talking about keeping Hamonic around, or re-signing Talbot, signing a veteran FA goalie in place of Talbot........
There just isn't room under the cap if they re-sign DeBrincat. I don't know on the number. I don't think they can go much higher and actually field a team without shipping someone out though.

Things people are going to comment on:

1. Kleven. I think he's going need some AHL time, and to my calculation both JBD and Lassi Thomson need waivers next year.
2. Formenton - I hope everything gets worked out, there's nothing that keeps him out of the NHL and he comes back.
3. Numbers for RFAs - It's spitballing. I don't know all the comps well enough to defend these numbers, they're my best guess. If you think the number for a guy will be different - I don't think my number is any better than yours.

$7.5M is a $1.1M bump in cap hit, and he's in a similar situation to when he signed his current deal - had a 40G season in the past, but was not that good in his FA year.

If he won't sign at that number or close to it, the Sens will have to trade him. I don't think he'll get an offer sheet for more, and if he does, I don't think the Sens match.

He literally has a 9M QO. That contract was back loaded for a reason and he holds pretty much all the cards.

Barzal signed his 3 year deal after a nearly 0.88ppg season. He just signed his most recent extension for 9.15M after putting up 0.60 season.
When Timo Meier signed his backloaded 4 year deal he was coming off a 30 goal and 0.85ppg season, this year he has 35 goals and roughly the same ppg. Do you think he is going to sign for less than 8M too?

I do too, honestly. I pretty much created this to show why - the team is completely handcuffed long term if they sign him even to $7.5M, that some people think is way below value.

The only card he has to play is to not sign an extension. At that point, he may be offered a QO, or trade talks start. Yes, he has the ability to walk this to UFA in a year. Any player does. Same thing happened with Mark Stone.

What do you think DeBrincat's value is on a long-term contract? What would you want him to sign for with your team?

If he absolutely wants 9.0 AAV long term, then the list of teams wanting and having the cap space to give him that will be very short. I 100% hope Ottawa is not one of them

I think he has absolutely earned the right to a 9M deal. There are very few 40 goal caliber players in the NHL. He's already taken a discount deal, his comparables are not guys who signed long term right off their ELC it's guys who are on their 3rd NHL contract and have 8 full prime years ahead of them instead of a couple development years and then their prime

Is he a 40 goal player or a 25 goal player? He's only showed 25 to Ottawa. I think any GM who signs him to $9M long term is counting on not working for that team in a couple of years.

He's also played the entire season with a rookie as his center. Do you really think he would not have significantly more success playing with Norris or Stutzle? Im quite confident that he will lead Ottawa in goals next year

He started the year playing with Stutzle and was awful.

He's been their 4th or 5th best forward, depending on whether you count Norris on a per/game. Signing him to $9M AAV would be stupid, and force them to trade a better, younger player.

Stutzle
Brady
Norris
Giroux
Debrincat
Batherson

What's your team, and do you think your team should trade for him and sign for $9M AAV?
