Why? I have never understood why these college players who aren't even point per game guys are so hyped... His already 22 and this season if you look at the stats was not as good as the season before that... Okay they are cheap but how often this do pan out...

For the same reason every team signs players to ELC/league minimum, for a chance to groom a young player or provide depth. 22 isn't 50, there is time for him to be a serviceable NHL player.

If not, he costs 950K for only two years or he's in the AHL. Pretty standard.
