This will probably never happen

But the overall mindset is Calgary should be a playoff team but their PP was lacking this year. Getting a PP specialist should be towards the top of their priority list

Mangiapane has underperformed a bit (just by looking at the stats, could be different) and the Blues want to reload with those around 26 which fits the bill
The added 2nd and 3rd round picks are to make it more enticing for Calgary and to help them add more draft capital

Calgary doesn't want or need Krug. We have plenty of offensive / two way defenseman. Andersson, Weegar, Hanifin, if/when he comes back Kylington and top offensive D prospect Poirier on the way maybe as soon as next year. We could use a 1st line scoring winger, a sniper, not a left shot offensive defenseman who's on the wrong side of 30 makes more money than any current Flames defenseman and would have trouble cracking Calgary's top 4.

Mangiapane has not underperformed, he's been filling a 3rd line checking role this year so of course his production is down. The last few games he's been on the top line with Lindholm and Toffoli and is producing again.

This is why I like this site. Haven't been following the Flames much this season but hearing all that, Krug doesn't make much sense with that depth they have.

As a Blues fan, I'm just hoping they can somehow get rid of Krug and trying to see what teams could be suiters. Knowing he's just a PP specialist at this point, trying to think of any playoff teams next year that had a poor powerplay and Flames were towards the top of that list

The point of trading Krug would be to use that cap space to replace him suitably. Taking back a guy making almost as much at not a position of need doesn't solve the original problem.

And Calgary says no, but mostly the other thing.
