NYR 17-18: Staal-Galchenyuk; Stepan-Brodin; B. Smith. No Shattenkirk.

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 16, 2017

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Per the rumors, the Rangers capitalize on the Canadiens' stupidity (Gomez-McDonagh, Subban-Weber, etc etc etc) yet again and trade Marc Staal and a pick for Galchenyuk.

Ordinarily, I'd never have suggested this trade (or thought it was realistic). Let's just say that it happens as rumored.

With lots of (nice) holes on D vacated by Girardi, Staal and Klein, and with a new overload at C with Galchenyuk, the Rangers take advantage of the Wild's D-surplus ahead of the expansion draft and acquire Brodin for Stepan and Grabner, while Minnesota makes an agreement with Vegas (for picks) not to select Spurgeon or Dumba (whichever is left unprotected). The Wild comfortably replace Brodin with Eriksson Ek. Rangers also re-sign Smith, who decides to return despite a bidding war because he felt increasingly comfortable with NYR's system (etc) after he was acquired at the deadline.

Rangers have enough cap space to re-sign their RFA's and also outbid other teams on Condon -- necessary because of Lundqvist's decline with age, evident last year.

Our Habs are dumb to trade Galchenyuk, sure that's a given, but they're not THAT dumb. Staal is a pylon, while Galchenyuk is a top-10 center as per statistics, though inconsistent. Habs are looking for Stepan in exchange for Galchenyuk, so what makes you think they settle for Staal?

The rest was quite logical, so I had to give you some stars.

Hah, well, it has nothing to do with what I think. Look at this:

Otherwise I'd never have suggested Staal to MTL. I completely agree that he's a pylon.

If MB trades Galchenyuk to NYR for Staal, I will literally start a hunger strike downtown MTL until MB is fired.............

Like how is this even a possibility? The rangers just bought out Girardi and what Staal is sooo much better than Girardi? These rumors suck because they aren't even remotely close to being realistic. I guess we should all expect it though, its Eklund after all. Stepan on the other hand does make some sense even though I don't agree with it.

Well, Eriksson Ek wouldn't be replacing Brodin seeing as Ek is a forward...
