Team: 2023-24 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 30, 2023
Published: Apr. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bedard starts on the wing. After a bit give him some games at C and then decide who ends up on the wing between he, McTavish and Zegras. All 3 have to be in the top 6 and maybe even all on the same line.

Either Zellweger or Minty is the #4 D. Get PP time and play vs 2nd and 3rd lines. In 24-25 take over top LD and move Fowler down and whoever lost that battle becomes the 3LD for that season.

Comtois gets a final chance in a top 9 role with a new coach to prove he’s a quality NHLer and can provide the 20ish goal potential he showed a couple seasons ago.

I like all of these ideas. I might have detail differences with a few of them, but nothing to feel strongly about. This would be the start of a good off-season for us.

I get the sense that Lundestrom may eventually be out the door with the plethora of centers we figure to have, but I would not want to send him out just yet, and not for that deal. I think he has a lot of unlocked potential if given the proper linemates over a stretch of time. Plus I dont think the Canucks get anywhere near that package for a guy with a 6.5+ cap hit. There dont figure to be that many suitors for him I wouldnt think. Jones is another guy I would hate to lose, but its a bit easier to swallow given he is playing mostly 4th line. I think Zell is almost certainly going to play the year in the AHL, but still get his 9 games. More likely that we bring in a middle pairing LD for at least 1 year until the prospect pool is further developed. Overall though, I would be happy if this was the team we iced for opening night.

I wonder if Jones for Peeke would gain any momentum — a great partner for C4

Konecny is who’d I rather have but his price is gonna very high. Boeser is a good top 6 guy. Lundestrom is a 3C which is a relatively easy spot to fill be it thru UFA or trade which doesn’t account for the number of guys that can play C in the org. And being that he struggles very much in the wing he’s expendable.

I don’t want Zellweger and Minty both being rookies together. It’ll be better to stagger their rookie seasons so you don’t have 2 guys going thru the rookie rollercoaster together. That’s my biggest reason for having one of them up all season next year. Plus not gonna find a 1 year guy to fill a top 4 role without giving multiple years or solid assets for.

I’d take Peeke over Severson because of age and contract but it’ll take more than Jones to get him. Jones is a bottom 6 energy guy. Peeke is probably a #4 type guy on a good team.

There are Jackets guys on here that just dump him so I wonder if something like Jones Pitts 24 3rd and Axel Andersson would get a move made?

He’s probably the odd man out since they have Boqvist, signed Gudbranson to that poor deal and have Jiricek close to the NHL plus Ceulemans in the system too. If Jones and a pick gets it done then I do that and still think about signing Severson.

If we land Bedard Strome becomes a bit of a question mark. I like Lundestrom better than Strome at 3C, as Strome is bad defensively.

Part of the "Problem" is really how fast McTavish has been developing, I think it was assumed he would spend more time out on the wing before going to C. McTavish could play LW while Bedard is on RW and Strome at C.

McTavish looks way better in the middle though I think is a problem

I agree Strome becomes a problem since then we would have Zegras Terry and McTavish Bedard as our top 2 C RW options

McTavish looks a lot better on the wing than Z does.

I think Strome fills a veteran role that the team needed this year, but in the coming years he will become expendable. I dont think he'll be the easiest contract to trade, and if we do keep Lundy I am not too thrilled at the idea of playing Strome at 3RW next to him (in a world where Bedard is a Duck). At the very least though, Strome's days at center on this team should be over

McTavish-Bedard-Strome is probably a fine line for a while, but with Bedard on wing that kind of forces Stroke to C where we want McTavish. We could push down, put McT at 3C and power play, Lundy at 4, put kids on the wings.

I would not mind McTavish-Bedard-Strome, but I would be more hesitant on the plan that drops Lundy to the 4th line. Depends on what Verbeek sees the 4th line being, but I think he is too talented to play that few minutes (side note I am very high on Lundestrom) and since he seems to not be able to play on the wing, he sort of becomes more valuable as trade bait. Im probably overcommitted to the idea of running Z, McT, Lundy down the middle with a BOG or Gaucher as 4C, which is why I find it hard to fit Strome on a lineup with Bedard. I just think Z and McT play their best hockey at center, maybe I'm wrong and they just need more time on the wing to adjust their game.

McTavish is the last of the 3 (Bedard and Zegras) that’ll be moved to the wing. He’s gonna be a better all around player than Zegras. Won’t score quite as many points but the all around game will be better.

Strome isn’t going anywhere and will be a 3rd liner for the last couple seasons of his contract as he should be. It’s just a matter of if he’s at C or RW. Also he’s defensive metrics will improve just by getting to play lesser competition.

If Bedard makes it work at C, Zegras ends up on the wing. I don’t really see a scenario where McTavish becomes a winger.

There was a trade a while back I proposed which was Lundy for Fabbro straight up, since Lundy has potential for 2C as well. It didn't seem to ruffle any feathers. But I would only use Lundy to get either a top 6 LW or a defensive but still youngish RHD.

I like all of these. (Accept Lundestrom)

I am very high on him.

And if Vancouver wants him, I want that first, unprotected.

It would be torture to see Lundy excel in Nashville of all teams, but I would be down to get another RHD that fits the timeline
