Tank Commander

Created by: HartemiPanarin
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 10, 2023
Published: Apr. 10, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tankathon has them selecting Reinbacher and Heidt as of me making this. In an ultimate tank move, the Red Wings get teams to pay them to take on salary. The acumulation of picks is immense. Furthermore, everyone not eligible for waivers will be in the AHL for increased ice time, thus allowing the overpaid players to play in the NHL and potentially be able to be flipped at the deadline with salary retention for even more assets. To also tank for the likes of Celebrini or Eiserman, Yzerman decides to run 11 F and 7 D all year.

I don't dislike sandin-pillikka or reinbacker really I just want someone who can score goals. Moore is my dream pick but no way he gets to us probably.

Moore gets to Detroit if two teams go D. Bedard, Fantilli, Mitchkov, Smith, Benson, Carlson (huge ????), Dvorsky (overrated), Reinbacher, Pelikka. The order can change after top 3. My worry 1. Carlson drops out of the top 10 (he should be a 20s 1st rounder, he is way overrated) 2. Everyone realizes Dvorsky (and/or Benson) are overrated. My hope is that there are a few players on other team's radars that make my worries not matter.

Moore would be my likely 1st choice, but if I were Yzerman I'd do my dangedest to scoop up Pelikka too. Imagine a blue line of Seider Walman, Edvinsson Pelikka, and Wallinder Johansson. If they all come close to potential within 3 years, that is the best blue line in the league the last 20 years, and a couple of them get moved for an area of need. Then you got your middle 3 locked down with Larkin, Moore, and Kasper. Rasmussen and Copp can then play wing, add Raymond, Berggren, and Mazur and suddenly you have almost 3 scoring shutdown lines.

I can dream right?

Although I'm big on Reinbacher, using a 10OA in this pick for our 2nd line defenseman would be cruddy.

Plus Heidt, as good as he may be, is not what we need.

Pelikka is the better choice anyway. If Moore is off the board, and Pelikka is still there, you take him at 10 (or 9 or 11).

I'm looking forward to Travy Dermott jersey retirement night.

Won’t be as emotional as Phil Di Giuseppe’s night

I wouldn't be shocked to see Dvorsky drop, he's been slipping as guys like Moore and Reinbacker have crept up. Carlsson might slide but I can't see him getting past like 6 or 7 at most.

It really reflects in the standings too. Bargain contract.

Pettersson must be a cap dump too because he is on a bad team. What kind of logic is that?

Dude you are usually very reasonable with your takes, this one aint it, Boeser had a slow start, he had a hand infection, he isnt a value contract, but he is a fair contract, especially with the way he has been playing as of recent

You are most likely right about Carlson. I just watch him play and see a high risk, high reward player. He looks like a slam dunk 1st liner like Zadina or Eklund, but I can see his talent not holding up as well at the NHL level. Carlson probably goes in the top 5 or 6 maybe, but Red Wings fans can breathe a sigh of relief that it wasn't their GM that took that leap of faith.

I wanted Quinn Hughes, but when Zadina fell, I thought it was amazing luck to get a two way second line floor at 6 in the draft. It wasn't easy to turn down Hughes, but man did Zadina ever have all the tools almost NHL ready. He even played some NHL games early in his career that had me thinking how his ceiling could be. We know the story now...he still has a lot of the tools that made him a great draft choice, he just can't put them all together, and he can't score on NHL goalies (I've never seen a player's shot regress so much year after year). This is Leo Carlson.
