That trade is god-awful for Ottawa.

Elliotte did not say this trade will happen he said Ottawa is looking for a goalie and Gibson is the first name that came to mind. i.e. that means nothing.

DeBrincat is worth a hell of a lot more than Gibson.

I see no lies in that statement.

But for real I'm bored watching Joseph make all that money to score 3 goals and contribute nothing, I like Cat but our immediate need is goaltending. No way that Gibson is worse than Talbot or Madds. This gives more stability than running Forsy/Madds. I like Madds but man was down bad being thrown into it. Threw in Frank because this team desperately needs a better bottom 6 and someone that can keep up with Pinto.

I wouldn't acquire a goalie who will make $25.6 million against the cap for the next four years just because "well, he can't be worse than Talbot."

Forsberg is better than Gibson imo and a lot cheaper, just roll with him.

And if we trade Joseph we can probably afford Casey DeSmith who is currently better than Talbot, Gibson, and Sogaard.

Elliot doesn’t know anything about the Ducks.

And @GiggywithGibby, tell them…

I don't watch the ducks, obviously. But just looking quickly it feels like he really only had one bad season on a team that was destined for the bottom. Forsy is overrated with this fan base but I think he could be a top back up in the league.

Idk about DeSmith being better, having him and Forsy would be like having two back ups which is what it's felt like Ottawa has had for like a decade +

I'm not sure it's worth Ottawa going out and acquiring a new goaltender. Give your defense some time to grow together and tighten up in front of the netminders you already have.

Sogaard and Forsberg should be fine for the time being.

He's had four straight seasons of .904 SV% or worse.

Right, I see what you're saying but in the last four years he's played on a team that has pretty much finished dead last or so. Why not throw him on a team that is ready to send it?

Per Verbeek.

"I'm not considering moving John Gibson," Verbeek said flatly. "I've actually sat down and had a conversation with him about this. We have an excellent number one goaltender. The hardest thing in the NHL is finding a number one goaltender and I can speak from experience on this, because when we were in Tampa, we did not have a number one goaltender and we gave up numerous assets trying to chase one. March 8, 2023, its on the NHL website.

Thats a huge risk to take. There's zero guarantee he'll become a great goalie again with the flip of a switch.
