Kind of hope Smith is protected

Description
So Vegas doesn't take him. I haven't seen the NYR list yet, and really hope Holden isn't protected. I know smith is a UFA, but still think he may be protectable? Can Vegas take a UFA? If so, and Wash didn't protect shatty, can vegas technically take him and hope to sign him?

I'm just basing off of rumors and Domi or Dvorak would probably have to come back if Step goes, and Deangelo is a young RHD. With DG bought out, maybe Deangelo can slot in 2/3 pair. If smith is re-signed then 3rd pair and Pionk/Beregzelov, Graves can fight for 3rd pair spot and 7th dman. Staal may just sit in the rafters here n there. If they don't accept his salary coming back, even if I have Gorts eat some of it.

This is just me hoping they take Holden based on his offensive totals last season and maybe see that Staal and Holden was just a bad pairing last season... maybe with a decent dman he can be better. Obviously they probably will take Grabner or Lindberg after Fast injury but one can hope on Holden.

That's way too much for Arizona to give up for Stepan, especially if Staal is included.

It's already been reported that Dvorak or OEL wont be included in any Stepan deal, So it's probably Domi and another piece going to the Rags.

Yeah I meant to take out the 1st if it was DeAngelo included... I don't think Staal gets included but just placed him with some retained salary as an in case they still value him.
I have heard rumblings of Step to AZ so am trying to see what it'd take. I wonder if AZ wants to move Domi though. I just know NYR are exploring bc his NMC, so yeah.

Does that mean Dvorak is regarded higher by AZ, or NYR said they want Domi?
