Canucks decline easily. Myers only has 1 more year left.

Canucks decline. Myers + 4th for FC's, maybe a 3rd if that's what it takes. No reason to take back Ellis, he doesn't add anything for the Canucks.

They get full cap relief for an LTIR contract. No brainer. They can get better players for 6 mill in free agency

Sure, if you do Myers + a 3rd or 4th for future considerations. However, the Canucks won't take back Ellis in the deal, he's a slightly negative value asset to them even if he is LTIRetired.

Idk who would take Myers with just a 4th attached.

He's a #7D making 6 Million. Monahan was better and got dumped with a first last year with similar cap hits

Vancouver is also over the cap for next year so they have no leverage in any trade. They could take the route Columbus did trading a good player for pocket change but at least in this situation they technically clear NHL cap space, with Ellis on LTIR. The only reason VAN wouldn't do this is because they don't want to pay Ellis

Vancouver actually isn't over the cap next year. They can put together a 22 man roster with about $2.2 mil in space without moving anyone. The general consensus on this site is that Myers costs between a 4th and 3rd to dump. Vancouver and Anaheim fans seem to be in agreement on Myers + 2023 4th for FC's. While Myers has a cap hit of $6 million, he is only owed $1 million in actual salary. The Canucks can pay his signing bonus and then trade him, and the team acquiring him only has to pay him $1 million. Helps a team like Anaheim or Arizona to reach the cap floor because of his $6 million cap hit, but also saves them real money because they only have to pay $1 million of that $6 million. Saves $5 million real dollars, plus the acquiring team can retain 50% at the deadline and trade him, most likely to a contender for a pick.

I'm not saying it's necessarily what I would do but it's exactly the kind of move the Canucks ownership is famous for.

Literally when have they traded for a long term injury reserve player?
