I think the Isles would do that trade in a second if there was any way they could fit a Debrincat extension under the cap, but that seems unlikely.

Islanders would need to send back Palmieri or Bailey but otherwise would consider it.

Would also need to have a long term extension in place at 8 or so. Not gonna pay all that for one year at 9 mil

They probably have to dump both Bailey & Palms (and possibly more) to fit a Debrincat extension, plus a backup goalie, a Mayfield replacement, and fill out the rest of the top-9 forwards.

I might be a victim of some recency bias in bringing this up but what do you guys think about a trade centered around DeBrincat for Dobson? Aho looks poised to step into a top-4 OFD role and could hopefully replace some of Dobson’s offense on the back end and in this scenario, Ottawa’s getting back a useful player they can use now.

Not saying either side should do it but it interested me, wanted other opinions

Flyers decline, not enough coming back for a 30 goal scorer who was on pace for 40, a point per game, all situations player who is just entering his prime on a steal of a deal.

Dobson had a horrific playoffs, but he was our best defenseman this year. It seems possible but very hard to imagine we would do it.
