I'd be surprised if the Rangers can retain both LAF and Miller with those contracts.

No thanks to Quennville (too much baggage), Messier (no coaching experience) or Sullivan (Pens fans have same complaints as NYR fans with Gallant).

The answer is to replace an assistant coach or two and replace with a coach or two that has a track record of 5x5 play AND strong defensive play. This is what the Devils did a year ago when they added Brunnette. If Gallant has a problem with this- then he goes too.

Rangers never lock a guy up long-term after his ELC expires. It is ALWAYS a bridge deal. Miller will get the same. His game regressed after he spit on Doughty.

But let's imagine LAF and Miller don't want to take so low $$$ contracts when some teams with cap could offer sheet them. at 4.3m and it only costs a second rounder?

Dreamland. Kakko & Chytil both signed 2x 2.1m & 2.3m. Lesser Laf will get 2.1-2.5m. KAM disappointed franchise and will get at lowest 3x4m or 4x4.5m.
Offersheets don't happen because owners don't want to self spike salaries on every Tom Dick & Harry rfa! The league is already maxed out lol

But isn't that the point....teams generally spend to cap anyway. So where they pay a two players 4.5m each (total 9m)or one player 8m and another 1m.....it's still 9m. If some teams want to a quicker rebuild, and aren't close the cap, spending a 2nd second rounder seems like a good investment. But you're right do teams want to offer sheet out of "politeness". But I really don't think it's a question of money.

If 1 house on the street goes for 1m, the others will follow suit. NOT what the owners want lol
