Goodbye 17th pick overall We hardly knew you

Description
There were a lot of "what-ifs" for Montreal's pick from Florida this year.
What if Pittsburgh had won their game near the end of the season against Chicago (!!) and eliminated Florida from the playoffs?
What if Marchand had scored on that breakaway at the end of Game Five against Florida and eliminated the Panthers then??
Or if Ullmark had not made that bonehead play in OT in Game Five, allowing Florida the easy win? Maybe Boston could have scored in Game Five in OT
Or what if Boston could hold a freaking lead with less than 2 minutes to play in Game Seven at home(!!)?
What if Boston scored in Game Seven at home and then ousted the Panthers??
What if Toronto was a playoff team and not a team primarily made up of 4 talented players who are not built for playoff hockey and beat Florida (OK, this last one is pretty unrealistic, but still!!)
Montreal could have had #16 or #17 overall in this year's draft and now they will have #29 at best.
The #29 pick is in the Rangers trade.

Leafs can take comfort in the fact that in losing to the Panthers they are hurting the Habs!

Maybe. Not sure how Hughes feels about the offer sheet process. Is he like Bergevin?? Not sure.

Honest question, if Laf's name was Gord Stevenson, from Moose Jaw, would Habs fans be as interested?

Honestly, I think so, based on the fact that he remains a former 1st pick overall, with intriguing potential...and that there's a strong possibility NYR may have to move him at low-ish value. But you'd probably see a lot less of it.

Watching him often, and knowing what I know of the Rangers, I can't see them completely giving up. If anything, he's the kind of guy that goes in a "blockbuster" deal the Rangers can chalk up to needing to make a move than just making a move.

30 OA and a “what if” pick is not enticing at all.

So you have the Panthers going to the Cup Finals? I could see that. They are on a roll.

The Rangers trade is not a "must" for Montreal. If the value is not there and there is no other reasonable trade for Lafreniere then that is fine. Maybe he will still be a cornerstone for the Ranger's future.

I absolutely love this panthers team and hope they make it to the SCF tbh. Unless Laf gets an offer we can’t refuse I don’t see us moving him, there’s simply no need to.

I made a mistake.

I hit the "Report" button instead of the "Reply" button. I did not actually mind the post you originally put up at all.

0 possibility he gets moved, negative possibility the player with the most even strength goals in his draft class gets moved at "low-ish" value.

Yup and they are helping Detroit, As of now it looks like the Isle 18th overall pick will become the 17th overall pick. And that one spot could really benefit us.
