Much rather just stick with Slaf. For as much as he struggled his first (half) season, he was the only one of his draft class to play in the NHL and players with his toolset are just harder to find.

Honestly I don't hate this trade either way. Could make for a good hockey trade, although i think Salf will be better than Laf.

I agree, and I really think MTL is the only team that may "overpay" for Laf...

Just because they were both 1OA picks don't mean they still hold similar value

Original idea. Close in value. Keep them coming.

I just don't see MTL go over the value of an offersheet, 2024 1st + 3rd. Laf's play isn't reassuring at all and I don't think they'd want him that much to sacrifice Slafkovsky.

The overpaying for french dudes isn't a real thing. If anything, this organisation is avoiding them.

Not sure what value you give at FLA's 1st in this scenario. Are we talking about #17, or assuming they'll beat the Leafs and drop down to #29 / #32 ?

If we're talking about #17, Habs don't do that deal. Slafkovsky fits a need in Montreal, he's still under ELC for two more years, and droping from #17 to #24 doesn't fit with what they're trying to do. If we assume FLA is gonna win over TOR, and that their pick becomes #29, NYR's pick would then become #23...then it would probably have to be a draft day decision for me, based on who's still available at #23.

I was basing it off of FLA beating TOR and having a later 1st RD pick. I know that Slaf has higher value right now compared to Laf. Laf is just trapped behind Panarin and Kreider at LW and would like to see him get a change of scenery.

It's probably something Habs could/would be willing to explore. But it would come down to an "on the clock" decision I think.
