Trading their leading point producer for another defenseman when scoring goals was the issue in the playoffs is not the smart move to make, regardless of what you think Carlson's value is.

The only issue i have with Carlson coming in the trade is he has not played a full season in 4 seasons.

Carlsson is 33, trading a 26 year old Selke finalist for an aging offensive defenceman is stupid.

He did miss half of this season with a freak injury that he has recovered from. Last season, he missed 4 games - played 78 games of a possible 82. In 20-21, he played 52 games of a possible 56. In 19-20, he played 69 games in a season where the team only had 69 games due to the covid shut down. So, aside from this season, he's missed a maximum of 4 games per season the last 4 seasons. The previous two seasons, he played 82 and 80 games.

Then hold onto Marner. If the Leafs want to make a move, and everyone points to Marner as the most realistic possibility, this is more than fair value. Not to mention, the leafs save nearly 5 million dollars in cap space in this trade (Carlson's salary effectively becomes 6M). Aside from Liljegren, who was scratched multiple times in the playoffs, the Leafs don't have any RHD under contract next year. They'll probably re-sign Schenn and Brodie plays the right side, but I've also seen Leafs fans say they want Brodie gone. If the Leafs want to move the eighth pick they receive here, they can move it for a high end forward.

They will hold onto Marner, people on here should stop putting so much stock in the Marner trade threads. He's not going anywhere.

Fans want to be angry, then they come here and post dumb crap. Happens every year.

You don't think it'll cost more to get rid of Kuzy? I doubt you'll get a 1st for him from Columbus. There are a variety of bloated C contracts that they can take on to address their need for NHL centers. I would imagine they're probably going to get paid to take Hayes from PHI, or pick up Bjugstad on the cheap. Kuzy isn't worth 7.8, so something has to even out the value if you're not paying someone to take him. His play off the puck is horrendous.

Do the leafs run it back again next year then? Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Rielly all still on the roster?
