Hard to emphasize how quickly they pass on it.

Really? Are ya sure? What if it was Sanheim instead of Provy?

Don’t think it makes much difference at all.

In this hypothetical, you’d have to assume they would be going the retool/quick rebuild route, hence why they move two top-of-the lineup players. However, I think Toronto uses the Tkachuk deal as a framework for any Marner trade and TK and Provorov are much lesser players in a vacuum than Huberdeau and Weagar were at the time of the trade. Same goes for Sanhiem. To add on Liljegren who this current management team is extremely fond of would be further impacting how little this benefits the Leafs.

I don’t think that Philly is a great prospective destination for Mitch given how much roster control Torts is supposedly going to have but if he did go that direction, I think the Leafs are looking for two contributing players as well as either draft capital or prospect capital.

From what I would guess just from previous blockbuster level deals, a deal would probably have to involve Konecny with a top prospect, as well as either another serviceable roster player on low AAV, or draft capital. A deal I think makes sense would be something like TK, Laughton and York. However, I still think Toronto comes out of that deal as the definitive loser come a few years time, especially if Mitch were to re-sign.

All good points, and I also thought of Laughton in there instead of a Dman, except.... if they can re-sign is not really the concern here. The concern is if you can't.

Of course, all teams have to operate under the assumption that players they bring in won’t stay. I do still think that working under that assumption still leads to the Leafs losing this trade just as most teams do when trading the far and away best player in the deal.
