Leafs changes Attempt 3

Created by: Jberney1
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 18, 2023
Published: May 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
2 trades

Cap to rise significant for the 24/25 season

Matthews signs 4yr x 12,500,000 extension
Nylander signs 4yr x 9,500,000 extension

Marner, Liligren to Philadelphia
Brodie and retained money to Arizona

The Free Agent market is not all that strong this year, only 2 external additions, Gudas and Compher

No trade partner for Murray, so he was bought out to free up cap room.

Considered bringing Towes in on a small contract if he is willing, much like the old Spezza deal… believe his leadership will only be a benefit.

Starting the year with Robertson on the main team but will be watching the youth on the Marlies in the event the left side needs some adjustment.

Take out the first, and the Flyers might be interested. C'mon Brodie isn't waiving to Arizona.

I'll never understand how it is paying Matthews and Nylander more $$$$ makes the Leafs better.

Luke Schenn working his way up that lineup, love he's a top pairing guy again!

They won’t stay for the same money.. so you trade them or pay them more…

I’ll look for a different option for a Brodie…

Interesting that you dialed that specific figure. I think Los Angeles will offer Matthews exactly twice as much for seven seasons.

They may…
I listened to a couple pretty good insiders today.. topic of conversation was players starting to go away from the 7-8 year deals… specially now that the cap is going to see larger increases over the next few years after the 23/24 season…it was an interesting take on them maximizing their future earnings….

Forgot to add… if he is looking into the future… there is a certain Newmarket player going into free agency right around the time the JT contract or a year after the JT contract expires… could be a possibility he comes to Toronto and they will need the cap space if that is ever a possibility… just some thoughts

Flyers don’t even answer the phone lol that’s just an immediate deny. Leafs fans don’t even look at what the Flyers actually need lol they just throw crap together and think everyone will bend over for them. Sure this doesn’t help Flyers rebuild at all but they won’t care they will want to help the Leafs anyway

Well…. You don’t necessarily know they won’t answer the phone.. and every trade starts with a proposal.. it’s not about making the Flyers bent over for the all mighty Maple Leafs… it’s about starting with feelers and see what interest there is… jumping off a diving board into an empty pool towards an idea isn’t likely a good response… just sayin…

Nothing the Leafs have will help the Flyers rebuild unless it’s high picks because most of ur prospects aren’t great
