If the price is Lapierre, I have a hard time seeing Washington moving up. In this case, I'd say its very likely they'd stick and pick at 8, though I'd imagine they'd at least to try and swing a deal with some of their surplus 2025 2nds and 2024 3rds instead of Lapierre.

I'm not a Caps fan, so maybe I'm off point, but aren't the Caps fading and will struggle to stay in the playoff hunt? Why would someone, elite or not, who won't be in the NHL for 3 years, be of use to them?

Seems to me like it's either trade the pick for help now to push for the playoffs or keep the pick - or trade down for additional picks - and start rebuilding behind the scenes while Ovi finishes his career.
