What if they run 3 goalies

Created by: evelutions2

Description
As it stands, the Canes have both Freddie or Raanta to sign for next year, if they don’t look at the UFA market. Both are injury prone, and both have been excellent this year, so either could be signed, but for this exercise, we will sign Freddie. Toronto needs to get out of that Murray contract, and the Canes have a bunch of cap space this season. I am quite sure that Freddie and Murray will get injured at some point next season, but Koochie isn’t completely ready for the starting role, so this would act as insurance and a stop gap. Systemically, the Canes have the defense locked down, but could also use a bit more offense. There is just shy of 4.9mil in cap room, with about 4mil if Stepan/Stastny end up returning. More than enough to bring in another player to fill some offense if need be. Would need to happen in the off season more than like. Would like to OS Laf but not the point of this.

All I’m saying, I think the Canes should at least consider running 3 goalies. If nothing else, it gives them a little bit of injury insurance in place, and they get a late first to take the contract. That way extra pressure won’t need to be heaped onto Koochie and Koochie can get more acclimated to the NHL level with hopes of him either being the starter or the 1B in the 2024-25 season.

call me crazy but i think they only have to give up a mid round pick. also this screams waddell because he is terrified of giving up actual assets and trying to win championships

With murray’s buyout low this year, we would need to give up a 2nd in the deal. That 2 million hit 24-25 could push them to make a move

Troll elsewhere. He move Lindholm and hanifin to get Dougie and ferland.

Also there is no such thing as a winning formula for making moves to improve the team. Nice try.

Laughs in leafs, bruins, devils, rangers, oilers and lightning.

Also svech was hurt post deadline. Adding a big scorer at the deadline doesnt equate to winning more in the playoffs. After meier there weren’t any left

There are a lot of GMs who should immediately be fired using this logic

Scared to win a Stanley Cup?

Might be one of the wilder things I have read on this site.

when you refuse to move your abundance of young assets and picks that do not have the superstar upside to help you win a championship you are afraid to win because taking a risk could lose you your job

he reminds me of ron hextall in that way. wonder what hes up to

Plenty of other teams, mine included, spent the assets to bring in rentals to make the team "better" and haven't gotten as far as CAR has. No cup, and now less assets. At least CAR kept their assets to have a future. If you sell off enough young assets/picks, you're eventually going to find yourself in a rebuild. CAR is remaining competitive, the evidence being that they've at LEAST made the second round 4 of the last 5 years, while also keeping their future.

As ecupirate07 said above, there is no one winning formula to winning a championship.

nobody is asking him to trade for rentals. he should have a pulse in free agency instead of trading for max pacioretty just to waste $7M the whole year lol

the leafs at least try to win. its respectable. canes would rather not. thats all

To be fair, they didn't trade for Patches, they got him for free, plus another asset. There's a good chance he would have done quite well if he stayed healthy, considering he had 3 goals in the 5 games he did play.

the reason why vegas traded him was bc he wasnt healthy. waddell wanted a quick out to actually making a move so he added a dude he could just put on LTIR if he once again got hurt. he did and essentially wasted this season because of it. bc of the way LTIR works he couldnt make another move (not like he was going to anyways)

its no secret as to why vegas is 4 games from a cup and the canes are, once again, left embarrassed

im ok ppl are willing to defend waddell but either him or brindamour has to go. personally waddell should have been gone years ago, but lets see what brindamour can do with an actual roster and a gm that has his back. it would be nice to see
