The Jets aren't retaining and throwing in NN for that return.

Not at all interested in a Scheifele rental, especially at that cost

COL would love this WPG trade...just can't see WPG doing it. Too much to give up for Trenin. He may have potential, but his numbers say he's still a mid to bottom six comparable to the production we were getting from some of our guys this year. What's the plan with Byram? I can't see COL wanting to figure out what to do with Byram and Toews in the same year, so the 1-year thing probably isn't something they do (and Byram wouldn't want it either).

Wow, I didn't think COL would love this. Why do you say that? I know that Scheifele behind MacK would be good for Mark and MacK would keep him in line / motivated, so it could work out well. Nino was great for WPG this year and does so much very well.

Isn't Alex and Oskar plus a 1st a high price to pay?

I mean, if Mark and Nino play at the top of their game, it would make COL an immediate threat and favorite to go all the way again...

    Just curious.

There's nothing that says they can't bring him back by trading G. The beauty here is MS has to perform (for the Avs) to get paid.

Byram has indicated he wants big money. There will be no three year $4.5M deal. Next summer he gets Arb rights. The Avs need him to prove he can play a whole season. So, a one year deal is a fit for both sides.

I'm speculating based off a few things. First, the general drive everyone has to maximize the cup window. COL's is open wider than other teams because of the core we have locked down, but they still will be in a "win now" mode every year. With that in mind, COL gets a little loose on drafting and developing for a few years, so as we saw this year COL is willing to part with some prospects. That makes Olausson expendable. In the same vein, the 2023 pick doesn't help us right away, so I don't see them minding that part of the trade. Newhook is a harder decision. Long-term it might hurt if he becomes top six or better, but right now his production can be replaced pretty easily. With all that in mind, I say COL pulls the trigger for Schiefle. With all the journeymen they had this year, they still took the Central. They can find the journeymen to both replace Newy and fill in around Schiefle. Not saying I would make the same decision, but it seems like COL leadership would lean in favor of it.

I'm open to the rental idea because while I hope Landy can come back, there is no guarantee. The Avs will know a lot more next year and it would be good to have a strong rental to negotiate with if needed. I'm not sold on it being Schiefle and I have no idea what Avs think of him.

Not interested in paying what he would want should he perform well. He'll be 31 when his deal expires so it's Kadri all over again. Plus, word is he's got attitude issues. Just seems like a bad idea.

I'd say most Avs fans would say they wouldn't love this. Don't take one outlier as gospel.
