Description
From the interview on Oilers Now.

Connor Brown is signed to a 1M AAV with 2M in signing bonus that kick in 2024/25 season.

Bjugstad signed to 1.5M and 500,000 signing bonus.

I honestly believe this is the team the Oilers start with.

3 years for Connor Brown? For both parties a 1 year deal makes the most sense. They both want a bounce back season. Oilers so they get value from a cheap contract & Brown so he can prove he's healthy/capable enough to go back into free agency next season to cash in for term/$. A stereotypical "scratch my back and I'll scratch yours". I don't hate the idea of Brown being signed but 3 years isn't logical for him. Have a great year and cash in on what might be his last contract.
I think Bjugstad is looking for more and will probably be offered more somewhere else!

Holland pulled a miracle trade getting rid of JP, I’m not entirely sure he could do that again. Yamamoto buyout doesn’t really affect the team long term.

I don’t see a trade, do you?

Thanks for the feedback, I actually like the one year deal better.

I gave both Brown & Bjugstad bonuses built into the contracts,Brown would go from 1M to 3M depending on bonus structure & Bjugstad would go from 1.5M to 2M depending on bonus structure both being games played, points, goals scored & plus minus.

I think a trade is unlikely unless another team has a youngish struggling forward they'd swap him with

I saw the bonuses but they're still not favoring the players long-term. Brown is 29 & Bjugstad is 30. Very important time for NHLers.
I'm curious what the market is for Bjugstad tbh but there will be competition and EDM isn't in the market to overpay bottom 6 guys.

I think there are a few teams who can overpay Yamo's last year who can also make use of him. Whether or not the Oilers get anything in return is another thing. Maybe add a pick with Yamo to find a pending UFA rental? Who knows. We'll see.

I think Bjugstad just made his payday, the Oilers did him good. I think in the open market 2.0M to 2.5M wouldn’t be unreasonable.

I also think because the cap is really going up next year you could see a lot of bonus structured contracts this year.

Like I’ve said, I think you’re going to see a lot of bonus structured contracts this year because the cap is supposed to go up significantly next year.

So Brown could see a million plus 2.0M in bonuses if he hits his targets the contract is worth 3.0M
