I can’t wait till draft day is over and people see that Toronto doesn’t trade their 1st round pick in a dumb trade to move Murray. It makes no sense. It’s getting really annoying seeing it in almost every Leafs post.

They are getting back a second of almost equivalent value in my proposal. Same as they did last year with Mrazek.

The difference is that Mrazek had more term left and a high buyout penalty. Toronto isn’t moving their 1st for that.

It's not moving their first, it's trading down. Which they do all the time to get like 4th round picks. Murray has a high amount of actual dollars owed. I think it will be similar to Mrazek

Dubas did that - he’s not the GM anymore. Toronto needs to add higher quality prospects to their system and you add a better one with a 1st round pick rather than a 2nd round pick. & the amount of money owed to Murray is irrelevant - they’ll buy him out and save a bunch of money and cap before they give up a 1st to move him.

The difference is Murray can block the trade and Chicago already has Soderblom as a lock and Mrazek for backup so why would Murray waive for Chicago? The only way I see that is if Murray believes Chicago will buy him out so he can sign elsewhere otherwise he's looking at playing in the AHL going to Chicago.

Regardless of that, it makes completely no sense from Toronto's side anyways. It's very poor asset management. It's smarter to keep the higher prospect and absorb a small cap hit for the buyout.

How do you supposed that happens without Toronto having a 2nd rounder? Nobody is taking Murray for a 2024 3rd rounder, so Toronto has to do something as they must move out cap unless they tade Nylander (or Marner less likely).

Buying out Murray is only $667k this year, and $2m next season. That's not worth a 1st round pick, regardless if it's moving down in the draft. & with Murray's injury history it's been speculated that he might end up on LTIR anyways, so why would Toronto move a 1st round pick when they don't have to? Doesn't make any sense.

Depends where they are in the cap hit situation. I highly highly doubt he ends up in Chicago, so frankly I doubt care, but the Leafs are against the cap and clearly have issues in their lineup

The difference in value between pick 28 and pick 44 isn't much at all to be honest. Like I'd rather do that than trade a third round pick.

I’m a draft like the one coming up, the 28th overall pick could be a very good prospect. Not worth giving up to move very little cap. The 44th pick is quite the difference
