devils would never even consider that.

lapierrex 1st and 2nd wouldn't get you bratt alone, plus Mantha has little if not negative value

It's actually a very interesting idea and reasonable in terms of fair value. That Washington pick will be #8 overall so if someone like Smith or Michkov is still on the board it could be very tempting to pull the trigger on that.
Mantha doesn't seem to have any value around the league but I think he's being horribly misused in Washington and is quite underrated. He'd be a very good pickup for most teams.

I do love Bratt though, and as a Devils fan I do lean against them doing this trade.

Here's my AGM running with the idea from a Devils POV: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4234203

honestly bratt is very good and it would not make sense to trade him for the devils, I would resign him. but most importantly it makes no sense for wsh. they have to rebuild, there is no way around it and keeping that 8th overall is the best thing you can do. also keep Mantha and hope he has a better season maybe at the deadline some teams will give you some kind of assets. lapierrex is also a possible future 3rd line center that could be useful.

lappy def has more upside than just a 3rd line center. he was projected a top 5 pick in his draft prior to his draft year when he injured his neck.

The eighth overall pick and Lapierre is very fair value for Bratt.

The Bratt deal is really interesting and seems pretty even on value, but I’d rather keep our 1st and Lappy than trade for Bratt

With McMichael, Frank, and Protas on their way up, Lapierre is expendable for us IMO. The eighth overall pick is tough to give up, but to get a young first line scoring winger, it’s worth it.

you are undervaluing bratt... and Lapierre might be your top prospect (yes he will be better than mcmicheal) but he is not that great of a prospect.

biased*

And I could say the same to you, but we'll probably never know anyway cause this trade probably isn't happening regardless.
