It's almost like playing with a Tavares that was still in his prime would have helped inflate totals too... seeing that was the year Tavares scored 40 goals and everything.

Seeing that Tavares went from scoring 37 without Marner to 47 with Marner in 2019, and from 27 in 2021-22 to scoring 36 this year with Marner, I think it's safe to say that Tavares isn't inflating Marner's numbers. With Matthews, Marner's was on a 110 points pace and 99 points pace from 2020-22.

It think it's safe to say that Marner isn't a 60pt player, and if Aho and Svechnikov are at least as good as Tavares is now, then Marner should have no problem getting at least 90pts, and Aho or Svechnikov should benefit by scoring 9-10 more goals.

Personally I think Marner > Aho, but rather than argue - for this exercise, values are close enough. .Are the Canes looking to trade Aho? And if you were - would you accept similar package (as proposed here) in return ?
I really have no idea why you think the Leafs would make themselves a worse team by making a trade like this? For cap space 🤯? Contending teams don’t often move it superstars for cap space…

If Aho told us he wouldn’t re-sign then I’d accept a similar package. Necas, Jarvis, Svechnikov, Kotkaniemi are all U24 so we’re in a bit of a different spot than you guys.

But I understand why you’d prefer more of a hockey trade for Marner. The thinking was that trading Marner would allow you flexibility to build a more balanced line up with a healthier salary distribution. For arguments sake, you could keep Necas, trade the picks Morrow and Drury for a guy like Weegar then use the extra space to sign Bertuzzi. Maybe a bit unrealistic but you could lineup something like this.

Bertuzzi Matthews Nylander
Knies Tavares Necas
Bunting O’Rielly Acciari
Jarnkrok Holmberg Lafferty

Rielly Weegar
Brodie Liljegren
McCabe Timmins

Appreciate the post, but agree to disagree.
Your comment about not re-signing makes no sense to me in this context. Nobody here is remotely worried about Marner walking (in 2 years btw); Matthew’s maybe but he just said publicly he loves it here and wants to stay 🤷🏻. Just NO way - imo - leafs would ever consider moving Marner unless a superstar was coming back. And on the canes roster - only Aho or Slavin + are close to superstar level. Don’t see a fit despite the so called rumours

Didn’t mean to suggest Marner would want out, just that if he was on the block for some reason I’d consider futures. But I get it. If we had a player like Marner I wouldn’t give him up easily.
