While the value is there, I think this isn't the trade that would happen if it does. You'll probably see other pieces on both sides moving.

Flames can't move Lindholm and hope Leo steps up in year 1.

The only way this could happen is if Lindholm won't resign in Calgary but will in Columbus. In that case Calgary would have plenty of cap space to bring in a pretty good older center as a stopgap for a few years while they wait for Carlsson.

I was against this before, but the more I think about how the draft is often a crapshoot I think I might rather have Lindholm than a guy who may or may not become Lindholm. Extension included, of course.
