Description
Everyone thinks Kuz sucks but over the last 8 seasons per 82 games he's averaging 71 points. He scored 78 points last season. He just grew tired of WSH and Laviolette. He'll fit in perfectly with CBJ who need a stop gap for Smith or Carlsson. He'll kill it with Johnny Hockey and/or Laine. I hate to trade him within in the division but CBJ has the space, need, and assets.

As for the ARI deal, Cooley is not going to sign with ARI and the fact he grew up a Caps fan he could pull a Fox and just wait out ARI. So instead of losing him for nothing ARI trades him to the Caps in a package blockbuster deal involving Keller and jumping up 2 spots to grab Michkov. (3) unprotected 1sts, (3) 2nds, and (3) 3rds is a good deal for a team that has their future up in the air. This gives them more shots to add great players that will be NHL ready when they move to a new location.

This will give Caps great help now and in the future. Imagine in 3 years with a top 6 consisting of Michkov, Cooley, Miroshnichenko, Sudalev, Protas, McMicahel/Lapierre, Keller, etc. At that point Caps just need to find a young #1 dman (Quinn Hughes maybe) and they won't have to rebuild at all when Ovi retires.

As a caps fan, It is a pipe dream, Cooley and Keller would cost 3 firsts in their own right, maybe more, not to mention adding moving up in the draft. You would need 4 firsts, McMichael and Lapierre going that way just to start the conversation and I doubt that seals the deal.

Additionally, I would rather keep Wilson over moving him for Nylander. Wilson is a special breed of player that is very hard to come by.

Jackets aren’t giving up a first for Kuz without significant retention

A 70+ point center for 2 more years ay $7.8M? That's worth a 1st. Maybe Caps eat like $800k to make it an even $7M.

Keller and Cooley are good, they aren't 3 1sts good. This is a huge package. MAYBE Caps add slightly more, like a B prospect or something, but not too much.

I love Wilson but he's 29 and has a lot of miles on him. His next contract will probably be terrible.

55 point center who doesn’t play defense and is bad at face offs and is on the wrong side of 30. Also has attitude problems. Jackets might be interested but not for a first

He's averaged 71 points per 82 games the last 8 seasons. Scored 78 points the season before last. You know the season where the Caps were the most injured in the league? Hard to blame him for lack of production. Add on top of that he got tired of Lavi. He's still a top tier skater and playmaker. He'd thrive with some of CBJ skill. Plus add the fact there are no centers available this summer in FA (maybe O'Reilly). Teams that want top 6 help will have to pay.
