It's possible Myers doesn't go to Buffalo. Regardless, 3 million retention for 2nd pairing dman nets a 2nd pick. Dumping 6 million in cap should get a first.

It can’t be both. Either he’s a dump or a 2nd pairing.

If myers was a second pairing defenseman he wouldn't need to be dumped.

If myers at 3 million is worth a 2nd, then myers at 6 million isn't a cap dump. In the real world myers is a cap dump (not a necessary one because vancouver isn't a contender, and due to bonus structure he will only cost 1 mill real dollars and will be cheap to dump to a cap floor team) however, and he is worth nothing, if not still a cap dump at 3 million.

Mrazek trade last season is an example.

Mrazek buyout last year would have cost 5 mill in cap space 7.6 mill in cap without a buyout, and toronto moved down 13 spots to get rid of it. (value approximately equivalent to paying the 45th pick to dump mrazek).

Somehow less term, half as expensive buyout equals a better pick in a better draft?

Lol Zuccarello isn't a cap dump. Minnesota declines. Zuccarello isn't waiving for Montreal! What a horrible proposal slanted toward you guys always. Thus deal will never happen

Aren't you going to address your Zuccarello proposal? You seem to ignore that one

Canucks easily decline. There is no world where a team with one of the worst prospect pools in the league is paying pick 11 in an extremely deep draft to dump 1 year of Myers. The Canucks will wait to pay his bonus and then dump him on a team trying to reach the cap floor like Anaheim, only needing to pay a 3rd/4th to do so. If Myers really had that kind of value 50% retained, don't you think Vancouver would just bite the bullet and move him 50% retained to Buffalo themselves for Jost and a 2nd. Jost fills the hole we have at 3C, plus we get a top 50 pick in an extremely deep draft, and we free up $3 mil in cap space to replace Myers. Seems like a much better alternative than paying a 1st to dump Myers when you don't have to.
