What do you suppose a rental top 4 defenseman gets on the trade market? Take a look at the history of ~29 year old rentals.

He can get at least what Martinez returned but Calgary has no reason to move Tanev unless a team want to pay up what he's worth

I would be happy to do mittelstadt, but I might be in the minority that doesn't believe in mittelstadt. Ostlund and rosen are first round picks that the current gm made, regardless of value, I suspect we would go another way if the ask is ostlund or Rosen.

I would bet my house that the return for Chris Tanev would not include the caliber of player of any of those three. At the very least, the age-talent.

I have no problem trading Mittelstadt. He has his detractors and rightfully so. He's also a 60 point utility forward making 2.5M and RFA. Take a look at the top 4 D UFA rental trade history. There's no chance on God's purple earth that Chris Tanev is getting Casey Mittelstadt.
