Montreal says yes. Ducks would be making a mistake, this is a high end draft and Fantelli could be a Eichel type talent or better.

Yeah you could attach Caufield to the 2023 MTL 1st and it still doesnt get you Fantilli

He isnt being traded, he is exactly what the Ducks need, and he is exactly the type of player Verbeek has shown he covets

He could not be more of a perfect fit for ANA if you tried to make it perfect

There is no scenario where the Ducks even entertain trading 2OA

Do you think that Mason McTavish is being moved to the wing if (when) Anaheim drafts Fantilli (or vice versa)?
It would seem like a waste to have McTavish as a 3rd line center.

True about the Eichel comparison, but if Michkov or Smith are available at #5 then Anaheim gets a shot at a player that is projected to be a consistent 35 to 40 goal scorer (Michkov) or a 70 to 80 point player (Smith) plus that 2025 pick could be very good (Misa should be a 60 to 80 point player, D'Aigle could replace Gibson) , PLUS Montreal is throwing in a late first in this year's "deep draft", which could be another 40 to 50 point guy. That is a lot of production and fills multiple holes in Anaheim's lineup, while still allowing Anaheim to have Zegras and McTavish as their top 2 centers for years to come.

I don't think any GM would make this trade just because it's impossible to guarantee a team will be a lottery team.

When you draw it up it looks like this:
2023 #2
for
2023 #5 OA

2023 #31 or #32 OA

2025 #?

It would take a lot more than that solely because there are less sure things when you leave it up to the future.

Anaheim says no. Verbeek is not giving up the 2OA. We're not trading that pick away.
