Bruins apparently want to keep Bert

Created by: History65
Team: 2023-24 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 3, 2023
Published: Jun. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Re-signing Bert and Hathaway, re-working the defense (younger and cheaper), recouping some draft capital, and leaves $4 million in cap space to further improve the team if necessary (an experienced back-up goalie or a veteran center). Young guys get a chance to prove themselves.

The Forbort trade could be any other team, chose Carolina because of their cap space and lack of left-handed defense.

Pens decline. No way should the pens take on another overpaid player. Much less pay a significant price for them.

Hurricanes have enough defensemen in the lineup and in the system and Forbort would just be excess goods

Like I said, could be any other team who needs a 5/6 penalty killing defenseman.

Pens are in win-now mode. Guys in the trade don't help Crosby and Malkin win in the next two years. Hall a perfect winger for Malkin (much better option than what you have aka-Granlund).

I’d take Forbort. Not the best match for us but he has pride, power and one badass mudda who don’t take no crap off of nobody.

Bruins fans can trade Hall and Ullmark all they like....but they jut might be untradable, especially Hall. What teams on his trade list want this 6m X 2 player?

That is quite an overpayment for injured hall because he did well in one playoff series

I guess if he's a liability on the defensive end then Chatfield will be there to help

One playoff series? People seem to forget how good he can be because he was relegated to the third line. I'd keep him for sure if they can't sign Bertuzzi. If he plays a season with Crosby or Malkin he'd be a PPG player, or close to it.

Probably all the teams that didn't make the cup finals, need scoring and a solid 2-way player, and are in win-now mode (aka-the Penguins)

Yea teams don’t pay top line winger prices for a 30 something year old with injury concerns who maybe could play like that for them. If they actually played on the 1st line for them

The pens won't be trading anything of value for Hall. He is too expensive and not the type of player Sullivan and Dubas have been discussing in their press conf.

Do Penguin fans not realize that Crosby only has 2 years left on his contract? They are in win-now mode. Drew O'Connor and POJ don't fit that time frame. Like I said above, Hall is a big upgrade from the left wingers the Pens currently have. Just funny to see that fans think a bottom 6 winger and a 5/6 defender is an overpayment for Taylor Hall.

How don’t POJ and Drew OConnor help the pens win? A young, cheap 2nd-3rd pair dman that is a good skating puck handling defenseman and a young cheap decent bottom 6 forward who take up minimal cap room are two much needed pieces for the pens who don’t have a lot of young good skaters. The last thing we need is another older overpaid player. The pens can spend their cap space way better. Your argument about Hall being better than Granlund makes no sense. Hall had 36 points in 61 games. Granlund had 36 points in 58 games with Nashville in a top 6 role. You’re not replacing Granlund with Hall here, you’re having us replace DOC and POJ for him. Not to mention the pens can just buyout Granlund and get 4+ million in cap space to sign a player in free agency that’s better than both of them and not give up the assets.

He’s not an upgrade over the LWs we already have. Guentzel is far superior. There are far superior that the pens can get in free agency. They aren’t wasting their cap and assets on an overpaid cap dump. Boston is in cap hell. We aren’t helping y’all get out of it unless y’all give us an actual good and useful player.

The first argument against this trade that makes sense. Didn't watch the press conference, so don't know what was said.

How many points did Granlund get with the Pens? How well did he fit in on the team? Almost every ACGM on this site is trying to dump his contract, and experts like Seravalli says the Pens are trying to do the same.

I never said they weren’t. But Granlund played on the 3rd line. If he were to play 2nd line surely he’d do what he did in Nashville. And no one knows if Hall would do well with the pens either. He didn’t exactly light it up with the bruins last year or Sabres.

They are looking for faster fowards who are aggressive forecheckers. They also talked about how they like their top 6, but need to fill out the roster better. The bottom 6 was really bad last year and they need to move out some people and bring in some better players. Granlund and Carter were terrible and they take up over 8 mill in salary.
