Agree with you....but I dont have faith that Dubas is that good, or the miracle worker you need. If anything in his Leaf career, he showed a pretty weak acquisition streak, (for every win, he had a whiff), and has left them pretty much in the same position when he joined, but with a limited prospect pool, most of its picks gone, and most of the key guys nearing UFA.

Dubas is the exact type of GM that we need though. We need someone aggressive who is not afraid to take chances and can find diamonds in the rough. That's just how our GM's have been when the team is most successful. Every year we won cups we had bold GM's who were not afraid to take huge swings. It's exactly what our DNA is and a complete 360 from how Hextall was running the team. And Dubas's vision was compromised a ton in Toronto. For example, him having a trade set for Tage Thompson and Shannahan vetoed it. I don't think he'll be afraid to rebuild either. If the team stinks again this year that's it and he won't waste time trying to make a team on the decline good. That's what we need. The core, even though it might not be super likely, deserves a last shot. But if next year, after big changes, is worse or the same as last year then I think Duabs will go all in on the future. That's something a lot of other GM's and people in the organization wouldn't do, but I think Dubas will when it's time. I think it's the smartest approach.

I dont disagree, but I think relying on those KEY players (Malkin, Crosby, Letang, Carter, Petry) to stay healthy and perform as well if not better is not realistic either. And just qualifying for the playoffs isnt the aim, is it?

Its just my opinion, but I think their window to win another cup is closed, and now its just trying to build around a deteriorating base

I suspect you might be right, but you kind of have to give it one last shot with a competent GM ya know? Like last year our depth and defense was so so bad. Need to at least see how the team would do with a good supporting cast. It's so hard to win in this league you don't want to go out questioning whether core had one more in them if they had the right team. Even if you might be right, I say give it a try and if it's bad then sell big time at deadline then rebuild.

Fleury isn't a cap dump and Minnesota doesn't need to move him, so no from Minnesota

I don't know if an 8 x 8 contract is wise 1-2 years out from a rebuild.

Have you seen the contracts currently on this team?

They are also not 1-2 years from a rebuild, they're 5 years out.

So just because Hextall gave out bad long term deals this close to a rebuild we should add more?

We are definitely less than 5 years away. Malkin's contract will be up in 3, Crosby's in 2, and Letang 5. And even if we re-sign them, which I'm sure we will re-sign Crosby, that doesn't mean they will contend the entire time. Completely unrealistic. We will be terrible in 2 years. Whether or not you want to rebuild we will be near the bottom of the league and getting high draft picks by then. 1-2 years left. 5 years from now Crosby will be 40, Malkin 42, and Letang 42. You really think we will still contend then?

This team will remain competitive every single season that Sidney Crosby is still on the roster - if you think otherwise, you're an idiot.

Crosby is the goat for sure, but every dynasty has it's end. Don't see it the same way you do, but I hope your right. We both want another cup end of the day.
