That Chicago trade is awful for the Bs. Those are two assets for the Bruins, and you are attaching picks to them to get rid of them? I can understand being pessimistic about the return on either one of them, but this is next-level.

Also, the idea that ROR will take 1x1.8M and Toews will play somewhere other than CHI for such little money seems pretty far-fetched.

Ullmark won't play in Canada, That's already been reported.

    Bertuzzi isn't taking no 5 x 5 deal try more like 7 x 7.

And Jonathan Toews will only sign with hometown Winnipeg or retire. And there's noway he signs for 3 years when he's basically toast now.

Toews is going to sign w/Boston for 3 years at $800K!!!!!! That is highly insulting! His agent wouldn’t dare bring that offer up to him unless as a joke.

I understand the sentiment, but the truth is, with how public everything has been about his health in recent years, signing him is a gamble. Give him a low base with performance incentives and I think that might be the best he could ask for right now. At least this way, if he can't make it through more than a year, he still has a couple seasons of paychecks coming in, and he can LTIRetire.

Cant have Sway sign for 3 years, takes him to UFA

Bert gets more $, you can cut the Brassard, Toews, Hamonic, OReilly deals, no need and a waste of cap space

Rather just keep the guys u dumped to CHI for nothing

EDM trade isnt terrible, could prob get more value elsewhere, one of Bourgault/Lavoie/McLeod would def have to be involved in the return

No thanks from Hawks. You take the onus of flipping them for picks and prospects if they are so valuable.

I can definitely see from a teams side why they wouldn’t want to offer him big $ contract. It’s more from his side. Between the contract that just ended & all of his endorsement $, why would he take this new contract? He has nothing to prove, he’s achieved everything he is going to achieve already & unless he was careless he should be set financially. Even if he still has the desire to lace ‘em up he should hold out till later in the season that take this contract. But that’s just my opinion, he is a free human being with his own thoughts & ideas.

I guess I came to the opposite conclusion using the same variables. He made a ton of money from his contracts and endorsements. If he still wants to play, money isn't going to be the most important thing. Also, with performance bonus incentives, he could make up to something like $2.5M per season, if he hits all the requirements. That isn't bad.

I mean, considering what guys his age and who have widely known health issues usually get offered for contracts, being a 35+ contract, coupled with the role he will be expected to fill, it isn't that much of a low ball. Maybe by a few 100k.

This is what a 35+ contract is:
    What is a 35-plus contract?
A contract is designated a 35+ contract if the players age on the first year of the contract is 35 or older (as of June 30 prior to the year of the effective contract).

35+ contracts that are two years in length or longer and:
    1. Have a signing bonus in the 2nd or later year, OR
    2. Are front-loaded
Will not benefit from a reduced cap hit regardless of the players location of play, termination, retired status, or a buyout. This rule was introduced by the NHL to prevent teams from backloading contracts past when the player was expected to retire. An exception to this rule is that a team will receive a $100,000 cap hit reduction if the player is on the 2nd or later year of the contract and assigned to the minors

So, teams don't give large amounts to 35+ contracts because they don't want to be saddled with large cap hits if the players get hurt or retire or whatever.
