has there been any news on toews playing again yet? Granlund i think would work in our system, i think he could even be a solid top 6 player here especially with 2 good wingers. the only thing i'm not sold on is mantha, 4 mil is a lot to give a guy this season that could end up getting burried 3rd line wing, i'd say take out their 7th coming back and try to get more retention if were getting him. That way we have a little more room come deadline to boost 3rd line rw.

I feel like these are the kinds of moves CMac would make rather than dipping into the overpriced thin UFA pool. He's going to look at other team's cap situation and wait for them to make moves or offer to "help" them out of a jam. I actually like the depth on this team much better than this season's group. Mantha playing with Mac could help him get back on track. Realistic and makes the team better; good work.

Toews came back at the end of last season and looked pretty good in the games I saw. 2C is a pretty big ask, but you give him those two wingers and I think that makes his job a lot easier.

I actually love the Mantha fit. He's big and fast and would be hard pressed not to succeed with MacKinnon and Rantanen. Add that it's a contract year, and I think it makes a lot of sense for both parties. If Washington will retain more, then great. But I'm sure they want to be on the hook for as little as possible, as they are still in win now mode.

I would like the fit but, Mantha is hard pressed to make it through a season and Toews said he was going to come back but it wasn't going to be pretty. Seemed like he wanted his last few games in the show and will call it a career.

I understand what you mean but i think any player put with mack and rants will succeed and probily have career numbers. If we're going to go after someone i'd like someone who can help 2nd line more, lehky plays well with mack and rants and does the dirty stuff so might as well leave him there. With 2C being another issue again i'd prefer to get a 'for sure' winger who can get results without having mack and rants carry him.

My reading between the lines is that Toews wants to play but is looking to see if (1) his health is ok, and (2) there's a good fit for him. The Avs check box number two, so I think he'd be interested, depending on what happens with box number one. If he did come to Colorado, playing him with Nuke and Lehk gives Bednar a really good shutdown line that can also produce.

Mantha has a higher upside than pretty much anyone else who would come on a one year deal at less than 4M. Maybe Pacioretty, but his health is even more concerning. If the team had more cap to play with, then it would be great to get more of a sure thing. But I think this is a very good risk/reward type of play.

I would have Toews as a max 3c. His skating isnt there anymore. To be fair, playing nearly anyone with Lehk and Nuch would make an elite shut down line lol. The Mantha move is my favorite Caps trade idea I've seen so far

It can be a bit more fluid with 2C, 3C, etc., but Toews winning draws at 60% plus Nuke and Lehkonen gives the team a nice advantage. He can at least slide up for dzone FOs and certain situations. Otherwise, maybe Newhook and/or Granlund get a shot there when the situation is more appropriate.
