I like Compher but there is no way to fit him in on the roster. The Jackets used the cap space they had extra to sign Severson. I think any additions would be through trade with money going out than thru FA.

Disclaimer- Compher and Daccord aren’t the important part of this exercise. It’s the AAV that matters. #CBJ can add a 5mil 2C and a 3G without trading anyone. Let new coaching staff thin them out in training camp. You never know who will and won’t click under new coach and systems. Trade out the players that don’t fit after camp.

UFA is still an option for CBJ it’s just not going to be a top 6C. More of a mid6C. As this shows, a c2 + g3 = 6mil can be added without major cap issues. Estimated 2.5mil extra this year and 20mil+ next summer.

Based on what Jarmo is doing, I can see them taking a big swing for a centre. Keep the 3oa AND get a top 6 centre. Compher is a very good 3C or a very poors mans 2C. Same boat as Jenner. Lindholm may be their best bet.

We will see what happens.

I don't get why people are so worried about the Miller contract. Wait to see what he does 2-years in because right now he's still a PPG player. He might have 4 good years and 3 bad or 3:4 or 2:5 or he might be like Pavelski.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying CBJ should be interested, they already have Gaudreau, Severson, Werenski, and Laine with high AAVs. Can also expect Werenski+Laine to be extended beyond those contracts. There's going to need to be space for their potential/rising stars that will need to get paid.

Miller is better on wing, imo. Plus Guys like JT Miller generally fall off a cliff between 32-34. That contract is cap death in waiting.

If that contract isn’t an potential issue and Miller is going to stay productive for most of it, Vancouver shouldn’t have an issue moving it… but why would they want to if it’s solid deal. I thought they still want to win now.

Not only would Lindholm cost major assets to acquire but he’d also likely be a 9 year commitment. This year + 8 year extension. The CBJ has 3 legit top 6 center prospects that should be ready in couple years. #3, Johnson, Sillinger, plus other guys in system that could pop. I don’t see Jarmo putting those kind of assets, both trade and cap, for player that could be pushed down to 3C in 3 years.

From what I heard he is best playing on the wing. Miller definitely has the potential to fall off like most players at 32, so like I was saying it's not worth it for CBJ or Pittsburgh (who has an aging core) to take on that contract. If it's after 34 that he falls off, then they are just stuck with 3-years. Miller is already slow but he's still producing, but the league is getting faster year after year, so I wouldn't be surprised if he falls off after 3-years. The part that I don't really get is why Vancouver fans want to move him in the first place, he's their 3rd best player currently and is set to become the 2nd highest paid player after this year, but they don't need to wait about Hughes until year 5 of Miller's contract. They do have a big contract in OEL that is already looking bad w and overlaps with the first 4-years of Miller's deal. Kuzmenko is likely to get a big deal that overlaps with years 3-7. Podkolzin and Hoglander don't look like they are going to be getting paid any time soon. Hronek likely gets a 2M raise at most and would be signed through his best years.

Long story short, they can afford for that Miller contract to go bad. They should just buyout OEL in 2024 or 2025 (better to delay to 2025 if possible) to freeing up 3.2-3.5m in those last 2-years of his contract.

I heard OEL was a target of CBJ if they didn’t get Provorov
