new look leafs

Created by: Sadleafsfan7
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 16, 2023
Published: Jun. 16, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade explanations:

Carolina: assuming nylander wants 9+, probably smart to move on. Fair deal for both sides.

Pittsburgh: dubas brings over a few of his guys. Leafs clear cap room.

Calgary: flames desperately need to clear cap space, move on from hanifin who likely wouldn’t sign an extension with them. Calgary gets a 1st, 3rd, b level prospect, and budding roster player on a cheap deal in Steeves. Treliving brings in a framiliar face.

Vancouver: canucks trade 3 year deal for 1 year deal at 4 mil. Acquire a 1st and open cap space for 2024. Leafs get middle 6 winger who can push up the lineup if need be.

penguins don’t need 2 rhd

if you want to clear cap and move a rhd give us Murray, Timmins, and the BOS 1st for Légaré and a 3rd

Brodie has played LD his whole career other than the playoffs this year. Acquiring Brodie is a win now move for pitt.

We don’t need LDs either. Pettersson, Joseph, Smith/Ruuta. Dubas likes to fix from within so i doubt he will grab a top 4 guy via trade nor free agency. I can see him making Joseph the 2LD and giving Smith a shot at the 3LD. We only need Timmins if we find somebody that wants Ruuta. If you’re trying to move cap to the Pens it’s Murray not Brodie

Playing Joseph or smith top 4 minutes arent win now moves. Pittsburgh is going to try and surround the core with veteran players, not 23/24 year olds with very little experience no ? I thought the whole point of bringing in dubas was to try to optimize the core until crosby/Malkin/letang contracts are done and then enter a rebuild

Jospeh is fine at 2LD and paired well with Petry. We didn’t acquire Smith to not play him. I said we’d try to give him a shot at 3LD and pair him with a defensively sound guy like Ruuta. We don’t need another expensive and aging defenseman

I’d hate to give up Minten, honestly looks like a full timer in a couple years.
