Description
Hate to see Willy & Lili go, but maybe this is the kind of deal Tre will try to pull. Value seems fair to me - Willy the best player (& Lili on cost controlled deal) so Flames add but both teams get expiring deal + player with some term. Edmunsen only if he’s certified healthy - seems like Tre kind of player.
Bunting takes hometown discount but gets term; if not him - any FA winger; I’m sure someone would take less on a short term, show me deal if you get to play with Matthews or Marner. Domi comes back to his dad’s team - adds some goal threat to 3rd line

Habs say ok.
Not sure what the Flames would say. Seems drastic for them.

Gee,I don 't like those deals for the Leafs. LHD are easy to find, without giving up anything and the Leafs have three already.
Mangiapane is nice but nothing special. and certainly the Leafs should be keeping 1.4m, 18 minutes a night RHD Liljgren with three years of control over two years of Mango.
Hanifan and Nylander might be a fair trade, but geez Leafs need goal scoring.

We should be getting way better at D if we are giving up Nylander and yet we barely did and got way worse up front.

Lilly is under our control and is going to be one of our better value players on the back end.

I like something involving Nylander and Hanafin if we are adding a player like Hanifin to the back end without giving up Lilly. But here we just seem to not be able to decide why we are making this trade in the first place.

Yeah, tough trade to make - I hear you. I also am trying to guess what Tre may do based on his track record (big d corp). But Mangiapanne is not ‘nothing special’ - he potted 35 goals year before last and was mvp of the world championships (as was Willy); put him beside Matthews and who knows 🚀. Hanifin > Lili and the cost control argument goes both ways Mangiapanne at $5.8M is going to be ~$3M lower cap hit than Willy next year. I agree that our biggest problem is we can’t score in tight games in playoffs - not sure how best to address that.

I know Toffelli is older but I see a switch in 24/25 when Nylander isn't signed as a UFA, and Toffelli signs with the Leafs as UFA. Besides Niemela, the Leafs have no Dmen in their system that could be considered NHLers, hence my belief that Lilijgren is almost "untouchable"

First, this d corps is much better than if we made no trades. Love that Lili is on a cost effective deal but Hanifin > Lili, no question about that. Edmunsen - if (& big if) healthy at $1.75M is a huge upgrade to bottom pair. And this is only my guess on what Tre might do based on his comments & track record.
Hate to lose Willy but committing $8-9M to him + $13-14M to Matthews severely handcuffs us in coming years. Reality is we haven’t got it done with all of these guys - so it might be time to switch it up . Matthews & Marner need to carry their lines (tried to put good complimentary pieces with each) and step up in crunch time.

Clearly, they would need to extend Hanifin (& McCabe - separate issue) for this to make sense. I have no doubt they can do that - Leafs are still a preferred location for most players. Villeneuve is a decent prospect in D but reality is cupboards are bare at most positions (other than goalie), which is pretty normal for team that has gone all in for the past 6 years. Makes no sense to stop going all in now
