the jets paid a 2024 2nd for him so this is objectively a positive return. i know nino said he liked winnipeg but it might not matter depending what they do this offseason.

Taking Yamamoto makes it less.

Yamomoto is a liability, not an asset. His cap and QO are way too high. Plus the Jets have to wait for the picks.

i forgot about his QO. the jets could prob squeeze more out of edmonton if they have to dump yamamoto’s contract but i still don’t think it’s a bad return. the 2nd is a wash, sure the 3rd is 2025 but an extra pick is an extra pick, especially if jets rebuild, and yamamoto is 6 years younger with potential upside

of course, if jets are running it back this year i’d prefer to keep nino lol

Edmonton's pick next year will be later than the Jets pick. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a difference of 15 or more. Anyway, my main objection is that I think the Jets can get more for Nino if they want to shop him. If they move him it will probably be at the deadline with salary retention.

Yamomoto is younger, but he's not a prospect. There's little team control. At best you could see him as a high-upside gamble. If he has a breakout year he could be resigned, or flipped at the deadline. More likely he just becomes a UFA next year after the Jets pay him 3M to play on the third line all season.
