Description
We can debate the Debrincat deal. Frankly, I like the return, even if it is lacking draft picks. Much of this particular ACGM hinges on Nashville biting on it.

UFAS:

Tatar: a solid two-way player who can contribute offensively on a short term affordable deal. More importantly, what males Tatar work well I'd he can play 2nd line minutes, but will not stand in the way of Greig if he proves he is ready for the role. Tatar on the third line with Pinto works just as well. Be the sort of signing I think Dorion should be looking at to leave the runway for Greig.

Burroughs: a cheap and decent option at 6-8 on the defense. His physical edge can allow Smith to change the look of the defense depnding on the game. Further, some insurance on Thompson amd Bernard -Docker (although I do think he is ready).

Raanta: wasn't wanting to call all crazy here and make a play for Hart (which would be a fit, but.....). What that package would entail would include Sogäard, and frankly, I think he will be the guy long term. Raanta simply is a solid player who can plit tome with Forsberg andgives the Sens a competent tandem over the next couple seasons while Sogärd marinates.

Defensively, the Sens blueline is good. An excellent top 4, and probably the best top 4 seen there in a good 10 years. Brannstrom is rounding out to what he is going to be, and I think Bernard-Docker is likely to make the team on the third pairing. Really, better places to upgrade than on the blueline.

Overall: hang in to the assets acquired with Debrincat to move forward, fill in a couple holes. The Sens should be more than a factor in the Atlantic provided Norris returns to Norris form and Chychurn can stay healthy for 70 games.

  1. L'Heureux, Zachary
  2. Prokop, Luke
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Sens fans will be asking..... where are the draft picks?

Well, L'Heureux was a 1st round selection, and has game. As it sits right now, projects as a top 6 forward, and adds to the Sens cupboard.

Prokop was a 2nd round selection, a player who looks defensively sound, plays a physical enough game. See him as a 2nd pairing shut-down guy.

The 3rd is the 3rd.

Point here is in a ridiculously deep draft, if the Preds bite, they are unlikely to move picks in 2023. Poile did to much to get them. But, to peel two prospect that maybe two years away for a team entering win now mode...... this makes more sense.
NSH
  1. DeBrincat, Alex [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Nashville maybe looking to add offense, amd Debrincat can certainly do that. Moreover, Trotz has the capspace to make the move.

Young enough to fit well with what I would call the future core of the team (Pärssinen, Evangelista, Tomasino, Glass and let's throw in Novak).

Not the craziest idea. But admittedly, depends on if Trotz and the Preds braintrust see this retool as complete to make this plunge. Overall.... there is a fit.

Nice take on the DeBrincat trade. Might be the best deal the Sens can get. Nashville has cap and need for offence. Would have a "sign and trade" though

I would assume as much as well.

That's an awful trade. Detroit trading NYI's 1st overall would be significantly better. Prokop may never be an NHL player.

I suggest you do some homework.

Prokop is pretty good. L'Heureux looks awefully good.

They won't be NHLers tomorrow..... but it sure looks like they will be in a couple years.

Senators cannot wait a couple of years. Plus neither have great ceilings either way. At least change the 3rd to EDM's 1st. The vast majority of teams will beat this offer easily, even if it's an underwhelming one.

I personally also really like L'Heureux but I think he would be part of an ask along with at least 2 draft picks only reason I say this is if I am GM of the sens with trading away the last 2 years worth of 1sts and 2nds I need to restock and that 2021 draft was brutal so that being said if Nashville were to offer:

2023 1st (24 OA)
2023 2nd (47 OA)
L'Heureux

I think that's fair, I think that's less than what Ottawa got last year especially if this comes with a long term extension in place for Cat

I don't think the Preds are going to be moving anything out of the 2023 draft, even if it is Debrincat.

Personally, the best I see them doing is recouping what was moved to get him. Otherwise, a team like the Preds will simply wait the year and get him UFA.

This is going to be a case of doing the best you can under the circumstances.

Disagree. The Sens can wait a couple of years for another crop of kids to come. The key components of this team are signed long term (Sanderson being the exception).

If the Sens were to get a 1st in a Cat deal, I would suggest it is more likely a 2024.... which by your argument is worse.

You need to think longer term here. L'Heureux I think is ready when Giroux comes off the books. Prokop is 3 years..... but has that Chris Phillips edge the Sens haven't had since, well, Chris Phillips. But that lines up with Zub or a more movable Chabot. And with Kleven also in the mix, that time frame can be extended to 4.

Maybe you can upgrade Prokop? Possibly. But chose him simply based on ability and where he was drafted. Preds arguably have other prospects "more ready", and given the depth on the RD they have, could possibly be had. (Note: I don't beleive they are as deep as people think, otherwise why sign Livingstone?)

This is a deal that cannot be compartmentalized. It is not about immediate replacements. It does become about extending a win now window beyond 3-5 years.
