The Blues have zero use or cap for Blackwood. Sharangovich might be tempting, but as of now they have loads of wingers and need to address the LDs. So one definite no, and one get back to us later.

Are you guys planning on bringing up one of your rookies? I understand they're cheap but Blackwood has a ton of experience and could be a steal of a backup!

Heh. Yes, Blackwood has loads of experience at not being very good and at being overpaid. Hofer is already set as the back-up this season, and they still have Zherenko (who's just as good a G prospect) in the AHL.

He just couldnt stay healthy otherwise he's shown some pretty solid outings. Hopefully Binnington can keep his cool this coming season 😂

Binnington was about the least of the Blues problems last season. He generally played fine, if not downright miraculous on a lot of nights.

He had a sub .900 save percentage overall last season which I'm sure is why he was pissed all the time. Not saying hes a bad goalie just had an off season which is more than common.

If you want to try and explain Binnington's season solely by looking at stats, you're just going to be way off in your assessment. The team in front of him was the problem, up to and including the 30 (!!!) goals they accidentally kicked/gloved/batted/deflected past him. That's literally one every two starts. All the wide open back door tap ins. All the terrible turnovers in the D zone. Binnington had his bad nights, but for the most part he played damn well last season. Without him, they would have a top 3 pick right now instead of #10.

As for his temper or whatever you want to call it, it happens when he gets run or otherwise jabbed/slashed/elbowed in the head, which happens a lot more than it should. And usually without a penalty called. The whole thing about Binnington being crazy or whatever is totally overwrought pearl clutching eight or nine times out of 10. Kadri injures him and knocks him out of the playoff without punishment, but people want to fall on their fainting couches because Binnington tossed an empty water bottle in the general direction of Kadri. It's ridiculous. Thank goodness these hothouse flowers never saw Roy play or Joseph or Belfour or Hextall of Smith or or or or...

Sure the team was bad in front of him but you guys arent in that bad a position for contention especially in your division; probably need a fwd or 2 for some depth same for dman. You guys will be back in the playoff convo next year be it 3d in your division or WC at minimum.

Yeah, they'll probably bounce back some, but mission #1 is the fix the top 4 LDs. They have loads of depth, that's not an issue. Mission 2 is a 3C.

Who starts between Blackwood vs Binnington? Would be an interesting tandem.

They can thumb-wrestle for it, for all I care.

Gotta a feeling Blackwood puts it back together the minute we ship him out.

I think so too, wouldnt be against it tho! Happy for Sevo getting the bag, and you already Graves is due for a payday and Wood is gonna get his. Crazy to think no more Lou prospects will be in the org next season.

Cant Sharangovich play C pretty well if so he could potenially solve the 3c spot

He has yet to demonstrate he can play C in the NHL. On the wing, he's a total Blues type player, but we have other needs at the moment.

Binnington, obviously. And the Blues already have Hofer for the back-up spot. Blackwood will not be coming to the Blues.

More offense from wing. He is probably a center on a lot of teams depending on system. Very long and quick stick…covers a lot of space in neutral zone defensively. Awesome on PK…especially with the poke checks. Offensively, he had trouble linking up in transition…so in higher pace systems, he probably plays more wing until he adapts as “pivot”. Offensively, his biggest asset is his wrist shot. Quick and accurate. Hasn’t been great on faceoffs, but hasn’t taken many.

Still room to grow too. He was drafted late as an overager as his skating was seen as terrible. During COVID, he returned to Belarus and worked with skating coach…and that year things clicked for him in KHL. Been a different player since.

Blackwood is going to put it all together one of these days…just hope it’s not in Metro.
