Calgary blockbuster

Created by: History65
Team: 2023-24 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 18, 2023
Published: Jun. 19, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hate to trade DeBrusk, but with Hanifin, Bruins may have the best top 4 d in the league for the foreseeable future. We take on Rooney, who Calgary has buried in the minors, to balance out the salaries a little more.

Swayman and Frederic sign a one year bridge deal, with an agreement to extend as soon as it's allowed (Swayman - 4 x 4 million, Frederic 3 x 2.5 million).

Allows Boston to keep Hall and sign Bertuzzi (love the idea of Bert and Marchand on the same line).

Had to go with a few cheap contracts to fill in 5-6th defense, but the top 4 should be solid.

Line 1 - speed and skill
Line 2 - grit and skill
Bottom 6 - youth and energy

I like the Calgary trade, Hubs would benefit having player like debrusk to feed to puck too

Overall pretty solid, If im Sweeney Id probably accept all those trades

SEA and Philly deals are just cheaper replacements which is fine

I like that CGY trade, but idk if Flames would accept that, it definitely seems fair as long as extensions are guarenteed with both

Thats probably an optimistic return for Ullmark, remove a 2nd or Drury and its better but preferably a 2nd as BOS needs a young C

Not sure how the lines would work with 3 top 6 LWs in March, Hall, Bert, but it could still work

that bottom 6 would definitely need a vet of some sorts, way too inexperienced but I would live with it if it meant exercising these trades

Like how you managed to keep them a great team. Just curious though, what is your next Hanifin contract? 7 by 8 years? Team discount for something closer to 5.5 a year?

Probably similar to Lindholm. 8 x $6.5 or 8 x $7

I know Bert has played right wing as well, so thinking of putting him there.
The Carolina one, thought it might be a little much with the 2 seconds, can remove one or maybe a lower pick?

I agree completely about the bottom 6 and maybe resigning Hathaway could change that(long term to bring the cap hit down).

Regarding Ulmark you have to remember that he was the best goalkeeper of the season last season and will probably do even better for Carolina. Drury, a bottom pair defender with low nhl experience and two seconds that will be late seconds is maybe an underpayment considering Ulmarks cap hit

Seeler trade makes no sense for the Flyers. Why would we give up Seeler to take a player we don’t need and doesn’t fit the rebuild? Just keep Seeler unless we can get a pick for him

He will be 30 by the time the flyers are even ready to compete. So literally the same age as Seeler right now. If they trade him it will be for a pick or prospect

I don't think the Hurricanes are going to be in the market for a goalie considering that they can resign either Freddie or Rants without giving up any assets

A 2nd and Drury for Ullmark, sure. But the Canes are unlikely to give up another 2nd, and Chatfield likely isn’t going anywhere either.

Calgary has less cap space than Boston

Buying out Rooney is dumb, it literally cost less to place him on waivers and have him play in the AHL

Canes pass. Drury could be had and maybe one of the picks. Chat isn’t going anywhere and not spending more assets when there are plenty of options in FA who would be just fine in goal. Especially when Boston isn’t dealing from a position of leverage.

Highly doubt Ullmark will do even better than last szn in CAR, numbers are more than likely going to dip no matter where he plays

Drury is a young C with solid potential, also goalies dont typically fetch as big of a return as a position player would, also BOS is not in the driver seat with a trade as Ulmark has 16 team NTC and they have no cap space. Not to mention CAR could easily resign one of thier goalies to play along w kochetkov

Then he can be buried instead. No big deal.

U can disagree with a wall for all I care lol, the flyers have literally said they don’t want to move Seeler and all of the flyers insiders said the flyers would only be looking to move Seeler for a mid pick or young prospect.

That's fine. These are supposed to be for fun and not to be taken as gospel. I'm not Don Sweeney.

Carolina is the team goalkeeper come and gets better. Their defense is impeccable and will be insane with a true elite goalkeeper. Having Ulmark and Kochetkov secures their goaltending position for the next two years where they can evaluate Kochetkov without pressure. Regarding Drury he is not expected to be given a chance to become a top 6 center and probably not even a 3C which limits his value for Carolina
